Chapter 26: Whispers in the Shadows
Leo sat motionless in his study, his eyes fixated on the faint glow of his phone. The message from Black Feather burned in his mind. "Stop looking into us, or the consequences will be severe. - B.F." The stark warning wasn't what unsettled him the most; it was the realization that they were watching him—closely enough to know his every move.
He leaned back, his hands gripping the armrests of his chair. A ripple of disbelief crossed his face. He had been a part of the underground world for years, maneuvering through its labyrinth of power plays and betrayal. Yet the Black Feather's full might had always been a ghostly rumor, whispered in hushed tones by those who dared to speak of them.
"How could I have missed this?" he muttered, running a hand through his hair. "What do they want from me? I've done nothing to provoke them."
The thought gnawed at him. He had crossed countless rivals, taken down powerful adversaries, and outsmarted those who sought to claim his throne. But this... this was different. This wasn't a rivalry—it was a looming storm, and he didn't even know which way the wind would blow.

A Proposal for Escape
The tension in Leo's chest hadn't eased when Kai appeared in the doorway, his face carrying its usual calm, yet his eyes held a hint of concern.
"Leo," Kai began, stepping into the room, "you've been locked in here for hours. That's not like you."
Leo glanced at him but said nothing. The weight of the Black Feather's revelation was still fresh, and he didn't have the energy to explain.
Kai, however, didn't need an explanation. He could see the exhaustion etched on Leo's face and the tension in his posture. Walking over, he leaned against the desk, crossing his arms. "You're overthinking again, aren't you?"
Leo raised an eyebrow, his lips curving into a half-smirk. "Says the man who practically lives in his head."
Kai chuckled softly, but then his tone shifted, more serious. "Listen, I know things have been... overwhelming lately. You've got enemies left and right, mysteries piling up, and you're carrying the weight of it all alone. But you can't keep this up. It's time to step back, even if just for a little while."
Leo frowned. "Step back? From what? The people trying to kill me or the ones trying to control me?"
Kai didn't waver. "From everything. We need to take a break, clear our heads. Come with me on a trip. Somewhere quiet. No phones, no enemies, no plans. Just us."
Leo stared at him, the suggestion catching him off guard. "A trip? Are you serious?"
Kai nodded, his expression unwavering. "I am. It's not running away; it's taking control of your own sanity. You need this, Leo. We both do."

The Decision
The room fell silent as Leo mulled over the idea. The thought of leaving everything behind, even temporarily, felt foreign. Yet there was a strange allure to it—a chance to escape the suffocating weight of his current reality.
"Where would we even go?" Leo asked finally, his tone skeptical but less resistant.
Kai smiled, the corner of his lips lifting in that infuriatingly confident way of his. "Leave that to me. Just pack lightly."
Leo sighed, shaking his head. "You're impossible."
Kai tilted his head playfully. "And you're predictable. That's why we balance each other out."
A faint laugh escaped Leo, the tension in his shoulders easing for the first time in days. Despite the chaos surrounding them, Kai always had a way of cutting through it, grounding him in ways no one else could.
"Fine," Leo relented, standing up. "But if this turns out to be some ridiculous meditation retreat, I'm throwing you off a cliff."
Kai smirked. "Duly noted."

Shadows Linger
As they prepared for the trip, Leo couldn't shake the lingering questions about Black Feather. Even in moments of levity, the specter of their presence loomed.
Meanwhile, in the shadows of the city, a figure watched as the duo made their plans. The unseen observer's lips curled into a faint smile as they spoke into a phone.
"They're leaving the city. Inform the others."
A voice on the other end responded. "Do we act now?"
"Not yet," the figure said. "Let them think they're safe. We always have to patient."
