Chapter 1 - one

I wish I didn't have to go to school, I wish I didn't have to study or have any of these useless deadlines. Why does life have to be so stressful and unbearable?

These are the thoughts of every teenager who attends Velvet High and is probably in their 5th struggling year.

Today is like every boring day in this school, I've been here unnoticed, though I thank God for that. I'm so frustrated with all the academic work and deadlines. Yet Velvet High isn't such a terrible school once you lay low and mind your business.

I'm not one of the cool girls, I'm not a nerd either, I don't really know where I fit in but I just know I go unnoticed and that's probably why I don't get into trouble around here. I've been here 5 years and my routine is already predictable. I just study, sleep, eat, and hang out with my best friend. Life is good so far aside from the unnecessary school stress.

Today I have my brunette hair packed up in a ponytail, I'm not sure why I dyed my hair this color though. Maybe it's because I like it? Or maybe it's because I don't want to look like I'm competing with the queens in the school. Either way, I think it has helped me go unnoticed and avoid trouble.

I'm sitting down at the cafeteria with my best friend Shane right in front of me. Shane is what I call a cute geek, he's about 6"1 and has dark brown hair very similar to the color I dyed mine. He has hazel brown eyes and a thick pair of eyebrows. He could pass for a male model of some sort, but he always gets boring haircuts and always has glasses on. I presume they are for reading. I've noticed girls directly give him glares as if to say they want to eat him up, but the only thing that catches his interest are the comic books, video games, and me, his only best friend in the world. He seems to be cool with everyone around here, it's probably because the guys here don't want any trouble with him because he's as big as all the jocks or they just don't see him as a threat.

After Shane is done tapping on his laptop for about 10 minutes he looks over to me and lets out an "Olivia."

"Yeah.." I trail, expecting him to say something more.

"Are you done with the assignment?" he finishes

"I'm honestly stuck, and I don't don't think I'll be able to finish it today." I sigh.

"I'll send you my work when I'm done, just try to paraphrase it this time." He says briskly.

"I'll do just that," I say.

I and Shane have a co-dependent relationship, we've always seemed to complement each other. When we were kids we would always exchange the snacks or juice boxes in our lunch bags, simply because either of us didn't get what we wanted or preferred the other. Shane has always been a complete gentleman, treats all women with respect, and is always so kind and patient. I value and respect him so much and somehow we've always done everything together, probably that's how we became this close.

"I'll take you someplace after school, you seem stressed lately," Shane tells me.

"Sure we can do whatever, I'm not going back to this assignment." I trail, looking directly into his hazel-brown eyes.

He replies with a soft smile making me notice how beautiful of a man he is. His eyelashes are naturally long and just curled the right way. I doubt he has ever trimmed his brows before because they sit right above his eyes, just perfectly groomed with no flaws.

I smile back at him before I notice I haven't even taken a bite from my lunch, and I've been sitting here for more than 10 minutes already. I wasn't in the best mood since I wasn't able to write the report I was supposed to, but I guess it's all covered now since I'll be having Shane's.

I start eating my lunch realizing we won't have so much time before the next class starts, if I just sit around the cafeteria doing nothing. Shane also did the same, I'm guessing the same thought came across his mind since all he was doing was just fiddling around with his laptop all this time.

Moments later, we are both done with lunch and me and Shane both head to class together. Shane Walks behind me like he always has. He's almost like a personal bodyguard. He towers above me with about a foot and is never more than a foot behind me. It kind of gives me the feeling that he's protective of me. None of these has ever bothered me though because at the end of the day, it's just Shane, my best friend.

Classes seem to go by quickly today, and me and Shane head back to his car. I opened the car door and got in and so did Shane, we've always ridden together for as long as I can remember. When we were kids his mum would always pick us up together and drop me off first before dropping him off at home. That was always how Shane preferred it.

During our drive back home Shane takes an unfamiliar route, one I'm not very I'm not used to.

"I think you're going the wrong way," I tell him.

"Remember I told you we were going somewhere?" He says.

I could see a smirk etched at the corners of his lips, while his eyes were still on the road intently, not even looking at me for a second.

"Yeah, I do," I tell him, realizing I didn't even mind where I was going with him, as long as it was him I could trust him with my life.

THE END.
