There was that one town that brought out it's outstanding uniquness in the country. This was my city,my town. Mombasa is one of the oldest cities in East Africa and serves as Kenya's second-largest city.
Established as a trading port in the 12th century, Mombasa became a vital commercial hub due to its strategic position along the Indian Ocean trade routes. The interactions between Arab, Persian, Indian, and later European traders led to a melting pot of cultures. The city's architecture reflects these influences, with its ancient forts, such as Fort Jesus, standing testament to the battles waged for control over this crucial maritime route.
Culturally, Mombasa is a mosaic of ethnicities and traditions. It is home to the Swahili people, who practice Islam predominantly, as well as communities of Christians, Hindus, and other religious groups. This religious and ethnic plurality can provide a fertile ground for conflict, understanding, love, and collaboration among residents. The annual celebrations, such as the Swahili Cultural Festival, can introduce us to local customs, food, music, and arts, thereby enhancing the richness of the predominant culture.
The city boasts stunning natural beauty, characterized by sandy beaches, the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, and unique ecosystems. Marine parks and coral reefs surrounding the island can serve as essential motifs representing life, beauty, and the fragility of nature. In recent years, the local government has made efforts to protect these natural resources, which can serve as a subplot involving environmental conservation or tourism's impact on local communities.
Navigating through Mombasa also reveals its modern aspects, which are significant to the urban experience. Rapid urbanization has transformed the city, introducing contemporary challenges, such as traffic congestion, housing shortages, and social inequalities. Young entrepreneurs and thriving local businesses have emerged, offering a stark contrast to traditional lifelifestyles.
Mombasa is also uniquely positioned as a gateway to other parts of Africa and the world, contributing to its cosmopolitan nature. The Mombasa Port is one of the largest and busiest in East Africa, facilitating trade and commerce. This entry point into a larger international dialogue can enhance the setting's complexity, introducing issues like globalization, migration, and identity.
In addition, the city has witnessed infrastructural developments, such as the introduction of the Standard Gauge Railway, which connects Mombasa to Nairobi. This infrastructural progress can symbolize modernization and progress, intertwining with themes of tradition versus change. Citizens may grapple with these evolving dynamics as they navigate their lives in Mombasa.
Looking toward the future, Mombasa faces challenges that will shape its narrative trajectory. Climate change poses a significant threat to coastal cities, and Mombasa is no exception. Rising sea levels and increased flooding could impact its densely populated areas and the livelihoods dependent on tourism and fishing.
One of my most memorable childhood years was when I was seven years old. There are several reasons why someone may require skull surgery after a concussion. In some cases, a severe blow to the head can cause a fracture in the skull, which may need to be repaired surgically. Additionally, if there is bleeding or swelling in the brain that cannot be managed with medication or other non-invasive treatments, surgery may be necessary to relieve pressure and prevent further damage. For my case, I had fell off from an unprecedented height which I couldn't quite recall, what really happened in general. But I remember surgical procedures that left a permanent mark at the back of my head.During skull surgery, the neurosurgeon will carefully remove any damaged tissue or bone, repair any fractures, and address any bleeding or swelling that may be present. The goal of the surgery is to relieve pressure on the brain and ensure that proper healing can take place. Recovery from skull surgery after a concussion can vary depending on the severity of the injury and the individual's overall health, but most patients can expect to spend some time in the hospital for monitoring and rehabilitation.
The post-impact of my traumatic experience became evident in my school life.I used to be one of the few child prodigy, watching trivial television shows, then answering such questions that seemed beyond my age,in loud shouts.Something which impressed my relatives, family and friends. But then ,since I got surgical operations after concussions,I had amnesia, and few signs of autism. It proved a permanent condition after trying all kinds of medications and therapies in vain.
As a seven year old boy in third grade,my relations with teachers suddenly changed when I first appeared in class with a head bandage. From previous grades,it was evident that I had been topping in class, winning favours before teachers as they saw a promising future ahead. But then I seemed to be a nuance to them.I recall a tutor who got angered with my deteriorating class performance. He was my class teacher. It was possible that the teacher had insolent issues arising from external pressures perhaps, or I may not know what might provoke him to such violent punishments he bestowed upon me.I shifted from being a favorite ,prefect state to be being a victim of intemperate pedagogic attitudes.Hoping that maybe my name would be normally be called out in the morning roll -calls but it turned out to be a contemptuous event. When my name was about to be mentioned accordingly, he hesitated for a while then he flustered, "Here kids,is another disappointment.I don't need to mention his name,he is known for lowering the meanscore and casting aspersions to our class."Throughout my third grade he was determined to torment me with his 'fellin giant joke' upon my reputation.Kids would roar into peals of laughters when my exam paper was handed out.Adding injury to insult,he went ahead to misspel my nickname in a comic manner.
The attitude I developed really was to avert my worsening self-esteem.Perhaps, I was motivated to work more harder, so as to just prove him wrong that he was just prejudiced and envious of me.But it became futile.Instead,I became,a thoroughly browbeaten boy,and I accepted the hostility of teachers as an inescapable condition. In fact, it bred a monumental rebelliousness in me such that I became a frequent staffroom visitor.A tiny mistake was flared up by my class teacher,in presence of other staffroom teachers.I had no voice of defence at that time, which automatically casted sheer disastrous view that my teachers were unquestionably right in their estimate of me as a dense and altogether noxious creature who deserves,if anything, worse than he got.I felt that if such pedantic persons told me that I was stupid, they certainly must know what they were talking about. In consequences, my grade sank lower and lower, my face became more noticeably blank,my manner more mulsh and my presence more aggravating to whoever presided over it.To be sure, I hated my teachers for their hatred of me,and I missed no chance to abuse them behind their back, but fundamentally I shared with them the view that I was a worthless and despicable boy, as undeserving of an education as I was incapacitated of absorbing one.
Oftenly,I loved holidays only.
My holidays were exhilarating if not amusing. The journey began after we closed school for long holiday festivities.I insisted so much to visit my grandparents that it became a norm eventually. One of the memorable journeys was when I paid my last visit to grandpa before his sudden demise later on. We packed our suitcases late at night, took a taxi van before reaching at the bus stage as departure time neared."Please stay around,I know how cheeky you two boys can be!" Mother fired warning shots as we were waiting for the bus.Boys being boys at such age, we were still curious enough to walk helter skelter out of curiosities. We couldn't settle down that much long."Mother,I want ice cream!" That was how we salivated at snacks being hawked around the station.Being stubborn enough, only few items were purchased at different time intervals, the rest of our requests were turned down."The ten p.m bus has arrived, please proceed with your tickets and items to the bus for verifications, thank you!"Loud announcements of the receptionist vehemented the room.
We queued for such procedures.Mother was poignant of our presence. She knew us for moving around carelessly.Soon, we took our seats, received bottles of water, before the driver clutches off in screeching bus noises.I loved the window -seat, it gave paranomic views of nature and the environment outside that thrilled me hysterically. The glaring lights of the port as we journeyed left a beautiful lasting impression on my mind. There were also temperature changes as one of our teachers used to teach us that,'the higher you go,the cooler it becomes'.That phenomenal became obvious as we then were triggered to put on sweaters as we proceeded on further.
Approximately after four hours, the bus pulled over, for refreshments breaks.Completely knocked off into deep sleeps, we were awaken, escorted to the loo, then chilled at the restaurant for refreshments.Such nocturnal businesses became flooded with passengers from different commercial buses that stopped by.Rush periods took place as the passengers were limited for only a few minutes. We didn't eat too fast and so we ended up with take-aways -junk feed. The tout made sure everyone was on board before the bus soon took off.The bus entered the capital city at around seven in the morning. At that time, my lazy eyelids slowly opened up to the morning lights.Big commercial buildings, skyscrapers, billboards, big screens, and strategic city clocks ushered us into such city environments. It didn't take long enough to remember to finish off my snacks and other remaining consumerists after remembering my voracious brother.
Soon, the bus embarked on its destined station. We settle down inside the station before deciding on the next move for a long while.
An hour passed by before mum decides to take us to a nearby cafe for breakfast treats."I want queen cakes",I answered when asked about the menu selection. My brother and mum chose the same items, oftenly.Soon in the mid-morning we were in for yet another long, about five hours-journey.The shuttle van seemed comfortable but not meant for comfortable sleeps.Despite face washes, sleep became inevitable for us kids. But I fought the feeling at the early phase of the journey, since I was determined to capture the daylight environmental views.
Mist and hills of Limuru, the escarpments, the valleys ,and the blue lakes and rivers not excluding forests set me into a relaxing if not enjoyable moods.Suddenly we entered Naivasha. The wild animals witnessed passing near the roads gave everyone on board, something to talk about in that very moments. It was exquisite, such that it left our tongues wagging .
Then the sudden body temperatures in my weak body polarized ,since I had health-battling issues,it hence made me nauseous. It didn't take long before I vomitted inside the van.An urgent issue that made our driver come to a sudden halt."Hey, what's wrong why are you messing with the van?"The driver grumpled.Transport workers being cautious with the government and their employers then, because of the grappling road accident menance that led to stricter policies and measures."It's my son,he has just accidentally vomited inside the van.He has ever since been having health issues. Please,I'm so sorry.I will clean it up!"Mum retaliated."It's ok,just take the kid outside.Make sure you clean that mess." "Okay,I will!"Mum said as we were alighting from that van.She took off my sweater, wiped away all vomit stains from my attires, before embarking on cleaning our seats and it's affected environs."Next time, you make sure your health are in check. We don't want any issues with our bosses."The driver exhorted as we took off in our remaining journey.I soon fell sound asleep after that perilous event.I couldn't even notice when the van parked at its destined stage.I was just shaken off,to my consciousness.Clumsily,I stood alongside my family after everyone had finally alighted.I dragged along my trollied light suitcase,as we were looking for yet another van that would bring us closer to our grandparents. After successful bookings,we rested in another hotel for lunch meals. I felt that I lost appetite."I'll just take soda and few pieces of cakes.""Are you getting better?"Mum then inquired."No!I'm convalescenting.I just need more time to recharge and re-boot.That's it",I retaliated.
Later on, we were inside the van ready for take off.The area was still cold, hence I became bewildered in deciding whether I was suppose to wear a sweater or not in fear of yet another body nauseous triggers.I was at crossroads."Mum should I wear a sweater in such cold conditions? Because I'm afraid of yet another incident if I wear it?"I boldly inquired."You can wear it, but if you feel uncomfortable after wearing it for a while, you can let me know"Mum advised."Thanks mum!"I replied.
The journey towards rural regions seemed different but unique to watch.Their custom attires, house models, and sparse structure made me curious enough to window-view.After approximately two hours, the van entered the final stage in our journeys' pursuit. We carefully alighted from the van, before we embarked on striding, looking for taxi motorbikes."Can you discount the price,I have two kids with luggage. That means I have to look for two bikes that will take us directly to town center!"Mum tried to bargain in the face of uncertainty and emergencies ahead.Luckily, she was able to convince the two bikers after a while confrontations.I didn't feel so sure of myself while I was on the open bike.I just clumsied my unconscious head through the bumpy and rough roads, that were poorly maintained in the long run.Holding my breath against gale, I was rapidly blinking my eyes as the bike speeded on.The dusty roads, were settled due to spattering recent rains, that was evident. The hilly roads proved an uphill task for the bikers as they roared the engines in efforts of passing through in the long run.
Soon, we reached the town center. After such inquisitiveness to the bikers,if they knew my popular grand dad's place, it became a surprise that for sure he was highly popular in the town center.I guess he led several groups in town apart from him being a church elder. The journey continued up to the gate of my grandparents. When we arrived,we were welcomed by granddad who seemed to be in his farm business, from the look of his attires and how he hand-held a farmtool."Welcome! Thank you for visiting. This is home."He said as he embraced us and helped to carry our luggages to his place. We settled in after a while, had evening snacks. Before adult chats broke out.My granddad loved kids, and so it became easy for us to be loved, cared for,and just those story- telling moments that brought kids closer to him.
Life in such environments felt different.Coldness, farms, and wider family interactions created a unique way of unity and just having fun.Suddenly, my cousins and uncles and relatives started streaming in after few days -intervals.Soon, we became a bunch of crowded visitors in such minimal spaces. Notable cousins that I quite got along with oftenly were:Kaity,Daesy,Sami,Kenny and other Petes; several cousins shared that name inherently from grand dad's lineage. That meant that fun times were just ahead. At first we all agreed to conglomerate around granddad. The extroverts decided to interrogate while the rest just listened. One of the Petes decided to become personal with his immediate kids."Grand dad ,tell us how aunties and uncles were ,in their childhoods?"Grand dad sputtered before narrations,"Your aunts and uncles were a mixture of habits.Others were voracious, others garrulous, others cunning, others were introverts like some of you." "I remember heavily punishing them after I found out that they were fighting over pieces of meats while us parents were away for a while. But they usually came together in safeguarding the farms and properties.I remember them chasing down a bunch of thieves from the farm. They tied them down, and did whipping before I came to intervene. For the first time in a while, I felt proud of them!" Such mouth-watering gossips glued us to raconteur, grand dad.We had mixed reactions along such storylines. But after a long while, grandpa became the interrogator, one by one, he wanted to know how we fared in life. For my case,I just told him about my deteriorating health conditions and hoped one day I would be a frontline health worker based on my aspirations and experiences."Don't worry everything will be alright! Doctors are life savers, how I wish my cancer could be cured.I'm still under medications."Such words of comfort and shock made us sympathize with him instead.
The following dawn we were left free to play after baths and breakfasts, then Kaity suggested, "Guys, let's go hiking !"We all acquiescented. We treked a much longer distance while whistling, before we met a bunch of kids who stood in our way, ahead."Hey,what do those kids think they are doing ?"Sami flustered."I think they want trouble!"Daesy suggested."I think we should try and go find out."Kenny boisterously Led the way, rushed towards them in a bravado manner."Hey,if you guys want some, come get some!"One of the boys in their group said,"There's no need of duelling, just tell us why are you guys trespassing through our farms!"Then another boy added,"We boys, have the upper task in hand of safeguarding our farms. There are rapid thefts in this area.We are just doing our obligations. No hard feels."Kaity amicably tried to retreat us back,"Sorry guys,we never meant any of this to happen,we will just find other safe routes!"Then one of their stubborn boys demanded money or anything valuable for them to let us go.None of us was willing to leave their shoes or attires to strangers for we knew that will definitely get us into trouble back home."No, you guys are way too crazy, let's get out of here guys."Kenny suggested. Before we even reached further, they then were pelting us with stones using their catapults. We ran for shelter inside the corn farms, but they still chased us down.I came up with a crazy idea.I hid inside the corn farm in a halting mode.I was timing them with a maize stem at hand. When their steps neared, I suddenly and boisterously emerged.I caned them until they retreated in fear, back home.I whistled to signal the rest of my cousins. We were soon accompanying each other in our hiking pursuits. At the evening,we returned home ,tired, with hand- plucked fruits at hand, but it seemed and proved to be a thrilling adventure. The other memorable moments were the festivities.Witnessing goat slaughtering, welling water, harvesting various fruits from the farm, cooking, helping in serving food and finally coming together as we feasted joyously and interactively.
The return journey became relaxing eventually,as I hoped that way.I rested for a while before soon undergoing medical check- ups as advised accordingly .I was diagnosed with few malaria stains in my bloodstream, but then tablet medications proved effective henceforth.
The following year turned out gloomy for the entire family.Grand dad succumbed to cancer. We prepared to travel for his funeral service at his backyard. But that day was peculiar. There was a mass gathering at his place. His friends ,and families and invited guests flocked the premises. Obituaries from various newspapers read about his celebrated life, kind of contributed to such kind of conglomerations. In black attires and tags that honoured the life of grand dad,the extended family had privileges of handling various matters. From body viewing to reading of eulogies and finally the burial event, the ceremony proved honorary.Melancholy ,everyone close was thinking about grand dad."I'll miss him!" "Me too!"That's how we cousins became colloquial about him.It made me ponder about maladies and how I could honor those around me by doing the right thing in my future aspirations.
Fast forward and it felt nice to be ten years old.The outstanding moments were my fascinating times spent in church and Sunday school on Sabbath. From the fact that my parents were holding leadership positions in church,it became easy for my brother and I to be popular.Teacher Marcy was a kind, social, loving and a passionate Sunday school teacher. Her methodologies of teaching left a lasting impression on us, she would reward us with confettis if anyone would recall previous teachings and memory verses. She loved using the chalkboard for illustrations, despite letting us use the recommended textbooks during class. The non-attentive pupils fell victims of answering random questions casted upon them.If they couldn't recall or answer correctly the questions, they were in trouble of painful cheek- pinches.Thunderous creative applauses were however encouraged to be gifted to active students that answered the questions accurately. The classes had an order of services. Praise and worship sessions followed by orisons then recall moments, the main sermons, memory verse recitations, before ending with a grace liturgy. The popular songs by then were:Read your Bible and pray everyday if you want to grow, Jesus loves me,This is the day that the Lord has made,I will rejoice and be glad in it and so forth.
However,I was part of a stubborn gang composed of Michal,Mertins,my brother and I.We used to sneak out of the Sunday school, spend offering monies, and even lying to our parents, teachers and adults. There were incidents that however, brought us back to the heart of the father in heaven. This was due to our cupidity that made us audacious but rather insubordinate.Gambling.The skipped Sunday school sessions led us to gamble with our offering monies at a nearby playstation zone ,then, became an aggravating situation with time."Guys, let's go and compete with other guys in loser -playoffs." I suggested tentatively."Yeah,It's a good idea."My brother in alacrity tone incited. We marched on in an intrepidity affirmative way. When we arrived, we all sat at different seats, the four of us.We were competing against strangers in a gambling scenario tournament. Our avidity became crystal clear as we were all well-versed with the e-sport game. After several rounds, we were all on the right track, we all won our games with different opponents. However, another set of teenaged strangers came in later on.Time was running out, the main church service was almost up,in the afternoon and here we were , gambling with teenagers."Guys, our parents are almost out!"Mertins warned."Let's just compete with these guys for a while!"Michal insisted. We played to a point we became insolvent, as we had already paid our debts. The extra games were a matter of pure gambling."Should we continue guys?"I asked the rest. But then, they psyched each other as they believed in themselves. When we were left with a huge debt, the owner cut short our interminable urges of continuous gambles."Hey hey, you four guys, you need to pay up ,right now!"The owner voiced up his dudgeonness. We tried to elucidate our customer loyalty to him,our friendship. But he seemed not to mix business with friendship after all.Our gratuitous pleas fell into deaf ears,we got stuck inside for a while since the owner had trust issues. The only way out was if our parents would bail us out from such penal situations."Hey you guys, your parents have been looking for you!We had to walk through all possible areas to find you!Why are you still here?"One of the Sunday school pupils inquired.I replied,"We are in a tricky situation! Can you just call in our parents to bail us out of here?We have huge debts and the owner has refused to release us after vain negotiations." "Okay right on it!"The kid ran to call in our guardians."Hey, don't you see this will get us into trouble!"Mertins hesitated."We have no choice guys, let's be honest."I retaliated. After a while, our parents entered the base section."What's going on here?"Mum asked."We just sneaked out of the Sunday school,to participate in a gambling scenario games but ended up with debts, and now we superfluously want a bail out." "You four are in much trouble, wait until we get home."Our parents agreed even as we were bailed out.At home my brother and I were given punishments that left us writhing in pain.
In the following Sunday school meetings,we were taught about forgiveness and since rumors about our secret adventures were known in class,we became models of the lessons."Jesus said,we should forgive 77 times 7 times. There four boys here that I want them to stand up, and issue public apologies infront of everyone for their known mischievous ventures."Teacher Marcy resonated. One by one in an embarrassing shyness, we all stepped forward and issued our confessions and asked for forgiveness. We also applied the same pattern to our guardians after being invited to class later on.Teacher Marcy proved to be a clear resolution enhancer in a broader perspective. The rest of the unforgettable moments in church and Sunday school are when we were taken out for expositions.I recall touring a ship with a christian library inside the cabins. It was fascinating, viewing various catalogs of christian books for kids of different genres.Dancing in a music video project for a designated popular gospel artist in a beach hotel.

Other trips were in form of family outings dinner with close family friends.Michal's family were close friends and so it became highly verisimilitude that we would have fun times together. The bond became vivacious when we were out for dinner in a town restaurant. With our spic and span groomings and outfits,we couldn't wait to order menu items as we settled down in a spacious restaurant that night. The esculent enigma culinary artistic meal offered in menu left us in conundrums."What are these aliments?"I inquired ."Just enjoy your rare moments like these, order anything you want!"Dad responded. We soon were on our rare mouth- watering meals. Interactions went on,as we kids were in listening and eating modes.Umbragely,we licked our fingers got scolded for our poor table manners, before proceeding to wash our hands.
Other outings were times when we decided to spend festivities in the city.We used well the 12 days of Christmas times- norm festivities.Going out in movie cinemas. I could review some of the memorable movies.Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire is the fourth installment in the Harry Potter film series and marks a turning point as the story shifts from a magical adventure to a darker, more intense battle between good and evil. The film follows Harry Potter as he is mysteriously entered into the Triwizard Tournament, a dangerous magical competition between three wizarding schools. As Harry faces life-threatening challenges, the looming return of Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes) changes the wizarding world forever.
What Works
- Darker Tone & Maturity – Unlike its predecessors, this film embraces a more mature and serious atmosphere, reflecting the characters' transition from childhood to adolescence. The Yule Ball, teenage romance, and rising tensions add depth to the narrative.
Also, the toys' shopping experience was convival.Robotic types were my favorite, the vehicles, aeroplanes, and popular comic strip characters like Batman that were remotely controlled, not forgetting video machine games after previous incidents .The bike, soccer balls and the rest became dull domiciled items in the long run.
As Christmas came closer, we also had mall shopping experiences outings, where we shopped foodstuffs for Christmas plus gifts like attires and the rest like snacks. This gave us kids a marvelous experience of awing mascots, decorations in the streets and in the mall, escalators experience, and the mall surveillances. When we got home, the decorations art began:Squaring the beautiful- seven coloured flickering lights around the walls inside our home, placement of the mini-christmas tree strategically, arranging the shiny balls under mistletoes, and finally the topping of the star. The following Christmas Eve day, was marked by meal preparations for the better part of the day.The Christmas day finally arrived,we were expecting our close family friends to be our guests. We set the dinner tables, and put on our smart attires as we awaited to host our guests.Various traditional and modern meals, dessert and drinks set inside their appropriate utensils on the table marked our settling down moments.A sudden knock on our door, amicably anticipated us to welcome our guests of honor. "Welcome to our place!Thank you for accepting our invitations!"Dad ushered them in.We then had candid interactions;the adults talked about their friendships, while us kids talked about school lives. We soon dispersed, after prayer offerings and wrapped gifts presentations."Thank you so much for your acts of kindness, we hope soon we can reciprocate .Have a nice time.God bless you!"Michal's dad humbly stated as we escorted them outside.
As I transitioned to the fifth grade the following year,an incident took place that gave a U-turn in life in the first quarter of that year.In our medium-sized shop, that sold various household items ,fire broke out.Goods worth millions got annihilated by the raging blazing fires that were too fierce to put off. There was an electric fault that late night after most businesses had closed. This resulted to sparks of fire that eventually graduated into an inferno. My parents were awoken by emergency phone calls concerning the dire situations. The intimidating crisis made them decrepit as they rushed towards the scene.A fairly populous had already convened at that post-midnight times."What's going on?And why are you guys still here?Do something!"Mum said anxiously. It made her paranoid, trying to salvage what could be salvaged. But it became despairing efforts since no one was willing, to go back to their distant homes to fetch extingushing items that night."We have called in the fire fighters, the fires seem too vicious to put off."One of the stand-by persons tried to explain but it made no sense to my worrisome mum and dad.Later on,the fire fighters arrived, but their inane efforts made little if no difference. My parents stayed there for a while mourning the huge losses, after everyone dispersed eventually. The cinerary scattered everywhere was what was left behind. As the chronometer went by,they comforted each other to go home in such somber moods.
The following morning, the curious market neighbors gathered at the scene, gossiping .It was then discovered by an electrician that an electric fault was the cause of the raze.
This in effect, had implications in our lives. We got chased away from school due to fees eventually. My idleness at home made me fall in love with television shows. The seven p.m show by then became my favorite:Fixing the nation, one conversation at a time. One show that made me suggestive was about loans. The friction that existed, where customers were unable to repay loans which led to confiscation of properties became a challenge in such conversations."Mum, why don't you take loans,so that we continue with our lives and studies normally, just like before!" "Good idea, but you should notice how strict these people can be in following up the debts. Moreover, you must have a guarantor, something which people are unable to agree upon." "But don't worry,we will transfer you two to a public school next term,as we figure out how to move forward with time!" "A public school!"I got shocked."What about my friends? Moreover,I heard pupils from public school oftenly fall victims of juvenile delinquency! How safe are those spaces?"I curiously asked."Well mister! You have to understand the situation here! We are trying to educate you.The rest of the issues can be reported anyway, you just focus on your education." "Yes ma'am!"I acquiescented.
Public school life transition became a reality to us.I would never imagined to end up there considering the up-bringings.After acing the interviews, purchasing uniforms, and meeting other required fees and items,I was finally welcomed inside the grade five class by the headteacher.Accompanied by him inside, he made a brief introductory speech,"Hello class, this is Pete, your new classmate.I expect you to show courtesy, cooperations and provide him a nice serene environment in the long run.Thank you!" I got placed at a front nearby desk.My deskmate warmly welcomed me before the classes proceeded on.Social studies became my favorite subject with time, learning about our country,it's struggle for independence, the national heroes instigated me eventually to join a scout club. Our primary role was to basically hoist the Kenyan flag on parade meeting days on Mondays and Fridays not excluding the gazzeted national holidays. We practiced marching every schooldays after classes, rehearsed and had fun.We participated also in environmental activities where we volunteered to keep clean our school compound, plant and water trees, ahead of other scheduled important dates in school calendar. In the long run, it made me patriotic and a fan of televised national ceremony. A Kenyan national holiday ceremony is a vibrant mix of tradition, patriotism, and official government functions, serving as both a commemoration of history and a unifying moment for the nation.
The following year I transitioned to the sixth grade. This meant a glorified classroom, the desks were spacious, charts were attached all over the class, contacts and class policies were also pinned inside the internal notice board. My mister was a science class teacher. There was something emotionally magnificent about him, something theocratic. His tall slim figure billowed in a silken gown as he glided rapidly through the cloisters, leaving behind a faint but pleasant smell of hair-wash, an impression of something rich and luxurious and mundane:a striking contrast to the drab penury of our existence: a touch of the great coloured world beyond. His richer tone of personal intimacy , became for me a large excitement,a rapid intellectual and above all emotional fermentation. To a large extent,of course, this expansion was due to adjustments of puberty, but its development was hastened and controlled by subtlety and his sympathies.
I realize ,on looking back, that his teachings methods, were perfectly calculated and deliberate. He knew that the school system had scored upon our brains a few deep grooves of habit which were in danger of becoming rigid:he set himself to render these grooves more flexible,to create new channels and associations in our minds. He taught us to feel and even think for ourselves. The greed I absorbed science lessons were alarming. He would invite community health workers to administer esculent vaccines against tapeworm menance as we were pursuing a science topic about health education. However,it became coincidental that I was still battling with the tropical nightmare malady of malaria .From science lessons about signs and symptoms it became vivid even as I visited a nearby dispensary.Fever, shivering, vomits, diarrhoea and joint pains were the answers that I gave to the inquisitive health practitioner. My project understandings were also due to my mister. From modelling a solar system using materials such as plasticine, softboard, clay, manilla paper,glue,paper-mache and candle wax so as to have a practical perspectives and point of views. To practically investigating the light energy; trajectories, reflection, refraction, rainbow making, and other science projects concerning properties of matter, and making work easier.
On a not so positive note, after learning about puberty changes,an outbreak broke out instead.Natural embarrassing pimples on the faces of the pupils turned out to be beguiling.A chicken pox menance invaded our school. We were forced to break by the administration for a few weeks as we were advised to seek medications during that period.Recovering from the mild infections, we were soon back on track.Through the local health ministry, the school underwent changes in terms of sanitations as hand washing strategic mini-tanks were placed around the premises along with sanitizers, medical gloves and masks were being offered to the scheduled and volunteering cleaners. After all the epidemic made us more health conscious.
Another adolescence change as taught, that I battled with, was wet dreams. At such age and times was when I had my first nightmare.Dreams as taught in Sunday School helped Joseph's family and Egypt rescued from looming hunger crisis, helped Daniel win favor before the king, also gave other divine directions but I couldn't imagine nightmares would ever invade me, considering that I got baptized, changed my ways to honor my church leadership parents and God.It became a superstitious enigma, that perhaps required divine interventions or a small still voice of deliverance.I didn't tell anyone my clandestine dreams,as I presumed them to be non-impactful, they made no sense and I saw to it a time-wasteful conundrum that it would seem unintelligible if I tried to interprete and figure it all out.Weeks after my tyro nightmare experiences, was when dubiously and incredulously I came face to face with abnormal aggravating impactful habits. It was easy to blame hormonal puberty changes but then it was futile interminable efforts to try and curb misbehaviours.Perhaps, peer pressures excaberated everything but it became a camel entering a needle like situation to just come out of it.
My partner in crime ,Isak, became contrivious. He achieved incredible aptitude scores that absolutely certified him as a genius alongside myself.Naturally,we both thrilled our teachers -but not for long.As a matter of fact, it became questionable on what kind of geniuses we were. Our shaggy hairs, untucked shirts, open collars, poor tied ties around our necks, bouncing and swagging like shambles sedatives. As for Isak ,one could tell if he was plotting malevolence by just looking at his mouth."Hey Pete,Let's go and ring the bell earlier today. It's lunchtime and kids just want to escape harangues of these pedagogues!"That was how we sneaked out, after asking for loo permissions to just go and create a school chaos.Chimes of pealing bell were heard earlier than before the normal time, the joyous and brisk kids on top of their lungs screamed, leaving behind the teachers talking to themselves after bursting out of their respective classes expectantly. We got noticed then, and were given punishments accordingly.
Isak just lived nearby and I got to know him in the second term.I found him glued to cartoon network t.v station, watching courage the cowardly dog.It was then we got addicted to the station. We would skip school ,sneak away from duties and other call-ups just to watch the show.Homeworks became derelicts, oblivious to the fact that we were following up such t.v series,in colloquialism.Justice league series, where we fandomed upon our favorite heroes, and other series like Jacob tutu.
I reverted back to my playstation gambling addictions. We ended up stealing cash from our parents, just to gamble with them. The more we won,the more the free games, the more times we overstayed and enjoyed ourselves.Isak and I overstayed usually but ended up insolvent as tougher opponents entered the game zones. We got caught away from school works, unattending scout practices, and church activities. But it became aggravating when we got noticed for forfeiting our class sweeping duties, through solemn punishments administered unto us.Still ,it became a circus event when we were in our class sweeping duties. We would run up and down after intentionally disturbing other sweepers on duty.To the extend of flirting with girls on duty, that was how we became the two maskerteers. We wouldn't miss to be in the list of the prefects and monitors even in silent study periods. They would just come up with random names at other times when asked for the list and guess what;we were on the list.Frequent staffroom visitors, kneeling down, scissors -trimming and gardening of grass and fences became a norm for us.
The streak transcended to the church settings.I remember inviting Isak to a church camp during the long holiday season, after the second term lapsed. We were to have a teenaged camp, where we were to be empowered spiritually on issues concerning a christian teenager and their 'spiritual milk 'cravings.
For the first time we were inside a boarding school- type settings. The dormitories with mattresses, waking up at dawn queuing for meals, showers, and just following a general program for those few days. When guys tried to bully us in any place,be it during meal queuing or girl flirting sessions,we would retaliate. We would follow such guys inside their sleeping rooms, pour a bunch of itching ants or bed bugs around their beds. They would then scratch their way during service,or anywhere. Then, this landed us into trouble as they reported the matter to the officials,us being the main suspects. We however, denied any involvements.Texts back home were just sent before being released from the office. We further retaliated,by exchanging the mic of the lead 'accuser' who was also leading the praise session,to a dysfunctional mic that embarrassed him in the long run,in front of his crush ,I guess.
The final term got us into a rehabilitation period, both Isak and I got summoned inside the head teacher's office along with our parents, this was after finally we got caught duelling with street kids, running up and down the streets, with stones at hand,we both got facial distortions, arm bandages and we were limping. Our class mister was also present along with the school's psychologist."Isak and Pete can you explain infront of everyone here, what exactly happened?" The head teacher demanded.I cleared my throat and began,"We were playing a street football tournament where we agreed with the other party that the winner was to take a carved wooden trophy plus five thousand shillings cash prize that all the twenty two of us were able to raise through various anonymous ways .The referee safeguarded the cash, after we both agreed in the game. The match ended up in our favor where we won 3-2, but then it turned out chaotic as they claimed bribery. They chased us down the street roads ,pelting stones. My friend and I were the biggest targets as we had provided goals and assists. That was how we ended up this way." Then the headteacher in an aversive tone exhorted,"You're supposed not to indulge in any ardeous activities that you know will cast aspersions to our school in any way. Moreover, gambling has more supercilious harmful effects especially to juveniles. This should be the last time I'm going to hear gambling and duelling cases.Do I make myself clear?" "Yes sir!" We responded in unison. Our class mister then spoke,"I've noticed sir, that these two were, at the beginning of the term geniuses. They took the first two overall positions leaving the third placed guy with nearly thirty marks behind. But then in the second term, they started misdemeanors that led to frequent punishments and eventually they had significant drops in the last exams, occupying seventh and eighth positions respectively.Psychologically, they're not okay ,maybe they could open up to us what's the matter!" Isak tentatively spoke up,"Sir to be honest, there's nothing wrong with us. We're just having epitomic fun,I guess."The psychologist retaliated,"What do you mean fun? You must be under influence of something, maybe drugs,or even bipolar conditions because this is an abnormal case scenario.Hmm,having fun!" I quickly replied,"No sir,we don't take drugs, for my case I have been having nightmares that saw to it my eventual downfall academically and habitually. It then perhaps affected my bestie. What I'm trying to say is that this is a case of superstitious powers as crazy as it may sound!" "Superstition!"Exclaimed our head teacher."Now!What are the available solutions here?" Then the psychologist replied,"Religious therapy would suit them. They should be given step by step guidances by religious leaders concerning their case as stated and perhaps it would turn out fine. "Then mum interrupted,"We got texts from the church leadership about their suspected misdemeanors, safari ants, bed bugs .I don't think they have the capacity to collaborate with church leaders!" Isak's mum got appalled since she loved Isak, like a mama's boy, she came to our defence,"Let's just give the boys a chance to reform, there's no need of indulging them into undesirable programs, unless they promise us to change, right here right now, after all they are just kids who need love and affections in their upbringings." "Ok,you heard her, kneel down, raise your hands while you take solemn oaths of reformations. Also apologize to each person here!" We therefore did as commanded,in turns , we all stated individual apologetics as we even promised to do better next time.We left the scene, but in suspensions per the school's strict guidelines. For the better part of third term ,saw healings, habitual changes in and out of school,re-join in scout's club, and drastic improvements in classworks and tests. We aced it! Making us back on track!
The chirping of the birds, breaking of dawn, mosque's reverberating loud orisons signalled the start of a new academic year after the thrilling festivities.Just a week ago, we were at our late night street walks adventures, blasting fireworks, red flares, rolling lit steelwires, blasting mini-explosives in our neighborhoods, just to prank them. All these cheeky but troublesome childhood activities were to usher in another year in such festive moods, despite the usual overnight church service.Tableau painted, got us into troubles, but we were excited in our custom annual norms to just interact and have night fun adventures.
The seventh grade transition finally took place. It was at this grade where I met influential personas. The first person was our class teacher, madam Solme. She was an aptitude oriented pedagogue who earned her respect to the people around her.Her sweet perfume, silk goaty hair that fell perfectly on her shoulders, splendid beauty, brown glittering skin, medium height, lofty big round hazel charming eyes, echoeing footsteps, white pearly teeth that instigated her perfect smiles as she spoke in an obstreperous crescendo voice.Such amiable effulgences insinuated attentiveness, respect and merry. She never entertained indolences, boisterousness,or any form of indiscipline. She taught us that the greater proportion of classical literature as it figured in the school curriculum was not only dull but silly:she taught us that life was more than scholarships, and literature more than books. We would read aloud the short literature stories from the textbooks, then she would go steps ahead to relate such stories to real life experiences. The guerdons of her teachings (group discussions, random tests and assignments) became visible by the end of the first term:our class had the highest stream meanscore in the subject .This also meant that I was elevated to a prefect status at the beginning of the second term after an exemplary performance.
The second person was my new deskmate;Tina Ciku."Make sure Pete that Tina understands everything around here.As a leader,I expect you to show better leadership!"Madam exhorted."Yes madam!"I acquiescented.Tina had a vernacular ascent that made her almost impossible to socialize with her.She broke rules oftenly, concerning different language observation days, but I had sometimes had to spare her from noting her down to disciplinary masters, but other times it became a coercing situations where I had no choice. One day,I confronted her,"Hey Tina,so tell me about your ascent issues, perhaps?" "Oh!We recently moved in to the coastal areas. The previous school at the countryside embraced both English and mother-tongue.That is why my ascent is still a straining issue.Buy thanks for always coming through at other times when I become oblivious to the rules around here!"Tina explained."You're welcomed!"I replied."I'm always here for you,if you want any academic aid,or any other counselling you can always open up to me.I promise to be sensitive and clandestine."I reassured her. That was how I slowly built friendship with her.She showed significant improvements in language tests along with others after engaging her to post-class discussions in the library oftenly during schooldays. We also built trust with our class teacher.Madam Solme would always pick us two to assist her in volunteering services or when she sent us to the market and other shops.
The second term also saw me joining the basketball sport's club in the school. The game involving five players from each team ,four quarters (each quarter having twelve minutes),shooting points depending on the range and fouls. My favorite jersey became number seven, after my natural talent acceptance and given a chance to pick a jersey number.Tina used to accompany me during practices and other friendly local games, just to cheer me on."Thirty points for the team, not bad, next time try to target higher,I know you can do it,bestie!" Tina flattered. "Don't worry,I will try my best.About the discussions meeting,I hope you don't forget,we adjusted the timetable to make it more flexible" "No worries,I will remember!"Tina agreed,as we dispersed back home after a tire-some evening. My love for basketball got inspired and flamed by my addictive 'n.b.a' watchings, during the weekend. This led me further to start loving sports. The first term had already witnessed the games kick off ; structure of the( K.P.S.S.A) games:
The competition follows a hierarchical structure, progressing from lower levels to the national stage:
1. Zonal Level – Schools compete within their local zones.
2. County Level – Winners from zones advance to county championships.
3. Regional Level – The best county teams proceed to regional tournaments.
4. National Level – The top-performing teams from all regions meet at the KPSSA National Championships.
5. East Africa Primary School Games – Outstanding athletes sometimes qualify for international school competitions.
---
Sports Featured in KPSSA Games
Ball Games: Football, Volleyball, Netball, Handball, Basketball
Athletics: Sprints, Middle- and Long-Distance Races, Relays, High Jump, Long Jump
Indoor Games: Chess, Table Tennis, Badminton
Special Categories: Paralympic sports for children with disabilities
Our school only reached the regional level as most games were lost in the preceding lower levels .Internal games involving grade levels highlighted the second term. Each individual class had to produce volunteering sports' personas ,with promising rewards at stake. Tina and I volunteered in the field games like long jump , basketball and indoor games like chess and table tennis where we grabbed the first positions by good luck. But our overall class position for the entire games after accumulated points fell to third. We divided our cash prizes amongst ourselves as each pupil was an active participant.
Mathematics;the science of numbers became also a sensation in the second term. Our math teacher,a young garrulous pygmy but interesting guy grouped his pupils accordingly.Tina and I who became promising were grouped together with other struggling students. We did intensive math exercises covering topics like; measurements, money, algebra, time, speed, ratio and proportion.Dividing 540 into two parts in the ratio 4:5, were some of the workable exciting exercises. This definitely led us to confidently take the end term exams in such expectations.

A royal wedding blends centuries-old traditions with modern global attention, creating an unforgettable event celebrated worldwide.
The final term begins and coincidentally after a mouth-watering royal weeding television viewership during the holidays, our class teacher announces her upcoming wedding in the mid -terms,"Hello class,I hope you had a wonderful time during your holidays.I know you all watched the televised royal wedding that was trending worldwide. But I also, have a similar announcements to make.In the mid-terms I will tie my knot !" Suddenly we congratulated her in boisterous cheers, whimps, whistles, and standing ovations."Thank you, thank you very much, you may have your seats.I don't want to involve all of you to witness or take part in it because of the complex permissions proceses indulgence. But since I know few of you, including your parents and how we have built friendships in the long run.I would like to officially invite Pete and Tina to be my braids' guy and flower girl . Kindly notify your parents beforehand. The budget will cater everything, don't you worry.I will involve both of you with time; for rehearsals venue and meetings, attires acquisitions, and everything indispensable. For the rest I promise to gift you with cakes, and confettis to just make you feel part of my post -weeding celebrations. Now away from that,,,." For the better part of that term, wedding was just on both our minds. We got call-ups for clandestine meetings in a church hall, after our parents eventually understood and gave us a green light. The marching rehearsals echoed my scout's practices in the previous years. Rhythmically the flower girls held their flowers ,both kids and relative older youths, moved along with the melodic music. The braidsmaid echoed the same patterns but with a different dance entrance style and choice of a wedding song. For several weeks we rehearsed, and eventually the days neared.Three days prior, we were sent to a tailor who tailored our pink half-coats ,and khaki black trousers. We were thereafter given a white long sleeved shirt,a pink bowtie, and a pair of fitting black shoes. The girls were gifted with a set of pink dress, pink high heels,a princess crown, and a ponytail hair dressings;style. On the eve of the wedding,in the midterm break,we had to practice the whole day, interact and finally had an overnight camp inside the church premises.A modern Christian wedding typically follows a structured sequence of events, blending tradition with personal touches. Here's an overview from beginning to end:
1. Pre-Ceremony Activities
Getting Ready: The bride, groom, and wedding party prepare separately. The bride often gets her hair and makeup done, while the groom and groomsmen dress in suits or tuxedos. This was where we were escorted in a decorated vehicle to pick both the bride and groom in such convoys.
First Look (Optional): Some couples choose to see each other before the ceremony for a private moment and photos. That became our rare case scenario.
Guest Arrival: Guests arrive at the venue and are seated. Ushers may guide them, often seating family in designated areas.
2. The Wedding Ceremony
Processional: The wedding party enters, typically in this order: officiant, groom, groomsmen, bridesmaids, flower girl/ring bearer, and finally, the bride escorted by her father or another close relative. This was our implementation part of the event,we marched in slowly,as the congregation glared along in exhilarations.
Opening Prayer & Welcome: The officiant greets the guests and leads an opening prayer.
Scripture Readings & Sermon: Selected Bible verses about love and marriage are read, followed by a short sermon or message.
Exchange of Vows: The couple recites vows, either traditional or personal.
Exchange of Rings: The couple places rings on each other's fingers as a symbol of their commitment.
Unity Ceremony (Optional): Some couples include a symbolic act like lighting a unity candle or tying a cord.
Pronouncement & First Kiss: The officiant declares the couple married, and they share their first kiss as husband and wife.

4. Post-Wedding Activities
After-Party (Optional): Some couples continue the celebration with close friends and family.
Honeymoon: The couple embarks on a trip to celebrate their new life together.
A modern Christian wedding balances faith, love, and joy, creating a memorable event for the couple and their loved ones. The event left a lasting resounding impression,as even I placed such photos in our family photo album book.
Such privileges gave both of us more academic confidences,as we even drifted into our friendships(with Tina)."I'm telling you,I was shaking in that wedding march. You know I have never done that before, especially infront of many people."Tina gossiped in class."Also me,I was afraid of such exposures. But thank goodness,we aced it , somehow."I replied."The high table meals, honeymoon experience, free clothes, post music entertainment where we danced together, eeh I'm telling you it was fuuun!"Tina hysterically mentioned."I know right!High five for that and hopefully many more ahead!"I replied as we high-fived each other.
"Ok ,you two ,Pete and Tina, since you had your time in that wedding.Come help me serve the rest of the pupils with these snacks that I promised them."Madam Solme suddenly said as she suddenly appeared in class after the mid-term breaks. We served them joyously with drinks and snacks, even as they enjoyed themselves."You know what, today is my birthday, but don't tell anyone."Tina whispered to me after serving the class."Okay,I'll try my best!"I answered her. After evening classes that evening, every classmate surrounded Tina around her seat and started screaming her name,"Tina!Tina!Tina!". Suddenly out of nowhere, another pupil poured water on both of us at our seats, with the school's bucket at hand."Yeei Yeei!"The pupils in unison cheered on after being wet.The rest came in after short intervals, showering the both of us ,who were still seated on our desk. After showers they then decided to sing birthday songs to Tina.Embarassingly, we decided to leave the school premises at that night. But Tina fumed in anger,"I told you not to tell anyone. Now how I'm I even going to explain this to my strict parents?" "I'm sorry,I thought you would love the fun tradition around here.I swear,I didn't know it would lead you into a confrontation with your strict parents back home . Please, forgive me!"I pleaded her."Okay! But next time ,you keep my secrets.I know the reason why!" "Okay, lessons learnt!"I acquiescented.
"Mum,I know I messed up but please just let me skip school tomorrow so that my clothes dry up.A bunch of kids poured water on us in birthday celebration moods."That was how both Tina and I skipped school after agreeing to give such excuses back home.
For the rest of the term,we reverted back in solemn group studies along with Tina, basketball trainings and other companies that we gave each other.
However, the long end-year holiday season became gloomy for Tina.We both knew each other's place, becoming a frequent visitor in the long run.Her family however proved dysfunctional. Her dad usually drunk, abused both the mother and Tina while he arrived back home late at night. On one occasion, his dad invited strangers at his home. One of the strangers saw Tina to be attractive, and so he suggested a forced hook-up,but both Tina and her mum refused .The stranger became a persistent visitor until one day ,in the absence of her dad, he invaded the place with his gang of goons. They gangraped and abused both Tina and her mum, leaving them writhing in pains and agonies. The dad later came on to escort them to a nearby hospital. They also reported the incident, later on.After investigations, the main suspects were finally apprehended.Tina witnessed court battles in such season, which extended for months. She hoped justice would be served, but she highly suspected her dad's involvement for wrecking her life. She and her mum mentioned his misdemeanors in court oftenly , during such sessions.
Another year dawned ,it was the final year of the primary school. It was also the year where we were to select our highschools, prepare for our determinate national exams, which we were to take place at the end of that year.Tina's self -esteem got lowered, but she managed to keep her court sessions absentia a secret. She instead lied to the administration and everyone else that the sessions were about a goon attack in the neighborhood. She only entrusted me with such secret sensitive informations.I was selected for the school team in the first term,as the school games countrywide were about to start."I will cheer you up this time,I hope my performances will boost your morale."I comforted Tina at the courtyard, hugging her after the evening practices. She didn't talk much at such times, fearing to recall her trauma in colloquialism. The games soon kicked off.We cruised past the zonal stage because of hosting merits. We wished each other luck(with Tina),even as we proceeded to the county levels. She was then a long jumper athlete, while I was in representating the basketball team. The county games held in town in a serene school saw both of us amazingly ,with little spectators, proceed to the regional level,at the end.Tina almost equalled the national record in her eventful jump. The regional games for coast, still in the same hosting county, but in another bigger school, saw to it sensation thrilling series of games as we frequently met with Tina during breaks just to psyche each other. We won all our games, while Tina aced her longer unreachable jumps that became hard to beat, eventually."I can't believe we are both going to the nationals." "But still in the same county."We both laughed in such excitements,as we hugged each other.
We returned to school in bus in such celebrations as we even broke into songs that late night."Okay , everyone you did a great job,Pete, you scored more crucial points for our basketball team.Tina you almost again equalled the national jump record. The rest ,I'm also proud of your efforts in different disciplines. For the first time in our school's history,we are here in the nationals .You guys rest and prepare psychologically for the upcoming games and trainings!"Sport's patron encouraged us with such words even as we departed home. The trainings sessions the following day, gave us a blow,as I being dependant had knee injury after tripping. That meant,I was out for weeks to allow healings."Are you okay?"Tina asked."I'm fine,I'll miss the national games.I hope this doesn't affect you in any way!" "What! You were my motivation and morale booster, considering everything I've been through in the past. But I will try my best!" "Good luck!" "Thanks!Quick recovery!"Tina wished me even as she gave me critical push to the hospital for bandaging. The rest of the team and guys came to check on me later on .Limping became norm, for a little while after being discharged.
Soon, the national games began.Tina seemed low-spirited as I saw her board the school bus.The games took part during the better part of that day, that evening I was awaiting to pick Tina up for home escorts. But the bus later arrived in non-chalant moods by the passengers on board."Hey, what happened? Why are are you just quiet after arriving?"I curiously asked."No one won anything,we all finished below the third overall positions!"Tina melancholy stated."I finished fourth. The best possible position compared to my mates!"She added."Perhaps,I lack some form of motivations,in the long run." "Let's go home.",I insisted,"maybe you just need to rest." For the rest of the term,Tina and I focused on school selection process. We hoped to just end up adjacent to each other.
I was convalescing at the beginning of the second term, but then the prefect insisted that I oblige to my class sweeping duties. My immune system suddenly became allergic to dust that made me asthmatic eventually.
Asthma is a chronic respiratory condition that causes the airways to become inflamed, swollen, and narrowed, leading to breathing difficulties. It is often triggered by allergens, exercise, cold air, or infections.Treatment & Management of Asthma
1. Medication
✅ Reliever Inhalers (e.g., Salbutamol, Albuterol) – Quickly open airways during an asthma attack.
✅ Controller Inhalers (e.g., Steroids like Budesonide, Fluticasone) – Reduce inflammation and prevent future attacks.
✅ Oral Medications (e.g., Montelukast, Theophylline) – Used for long-term asthma control.
2. Lifestyle Changes & Prevention
✅ Avoid triggers (dust, smoke, strong smells).
✅ Use an inhaler before exercise if needed.
✅ Keep indoor air clean with proper ventilation.

After such aquired knowledge from specialist,I began to pragmatize on how to get better with time. This in the long run affected my academics,I did poorly in random internal exams,as I dropped position and marks significantly. For the county exams preparations,Tina came through for me.She helped me revise ,as I quickly grasped concepts. We had candid conversations and interactions.Little did I know, that I would turn out to be a star struggling perhaps with academic pride. The county exams soon began.I had no hope of passing that exams considering my health battles. The last tests rendered me a tenth position hopping from a sixth previous position.I became more keen, and relaxed as I did my county exams.
Soon, the results came out in bits.I aced the highest possible points(in school) in Math,English,Science and finally Social Studies. Thus this left showers of praises from people around me.In the upcoming school assembly ,the head teacher in his hysterical moods invited me on podium stage, just to be acknowledged. He said that I made them proud.A possible contender of six awards in upcoming award ceremony. For the best student overall, most improved, best performer in Math,English,Science and Social Study.I was gifted money from several teachers during that assembly. At home, there were also giftings.A fact that tempted me to be pride -inflated.The academic trip soon took place. The colourful ceremony saw me awarded six awards, monies and high school scholarships.During the bus in the return -journey, saw Tina congratulating me,"Wow!That was unexpected! Congratulations.Against all odds,I guess,,But I just wish I could get a high school scholarship just like you!" "Thanks Tina, It's hard to stay humble especially when your opponents talk about laughing last proverbs.I have no choice but to just be proud of my moments, maybe they might beat me next time.Who knows? For the scholarships,Im willing to help you ,up and down to help you also secure your dreamy high school scholarship." "Thanks, for everything by the way." "You're welcomed!"We hugged inside the bus as we even chatted other issues. She seemed cheerful when she held my medals and awards. The school henceforth planned more academic trips during the summer vacation. We were to cruise past the popular national schools around the capital city.We were soon to do our end-term exams before I got distracted by the Olympic games. My attention significantly shifted as I was eager to witness the London Olympics opening ceremony.
This obviously led me to another significant drop in the upcoming end term exams. The times finally came about, when we were to board a bus in anticipation for a series of academic vacations. With backpacks we all gathered at the school's premises that very night, the bus soon took off after roll- calls and confirmations.I sat besides Tina and Isak.We had fun times conversating.Isak began,"Wow! I can't believe this is my first time in a long time trip!" "Me too!"I replied."Guys!Just relax and enjoy the trip.Since I'm at the window seat,I'll be giving you guys updates of the place we are ,after hopefully observing signboards!"Tina comically resonated. We slept during the night trip eventually after getting exhausted. The lights inside went off , signalling sleeping and quiet times."Hey guys, welcome to Nairobi!"Tina awoke us in such brisk alarms. The bus soon took avenue deviations as the cold pinching weather penetrated through our heavy sweaters and attires, irregardless.Forming mist out of our talking mouths, showed how cold it was that early morning times. We met other camping students as we conglomerated at the hosting school. We queued for registrations and breakfasts intakes before assembling for further instructions. We got educated, entertained, had fun games during the first phases after boarding in the same school for a few days. The last days saw external visits to other neighbouring national schools. The bench-marking trips were meant to inspire us to work hard in school. We saw farm projects of other schools on how they decided to be independent in terms of food security, that meant lower fees in the long run.Other school offered scholarship opportunity to bright but needy kids. That fact inspired Tina along that school bench-mark session.
Afterwards during a break session,we decided (Tina and I) to sneak into a nearby forest, for just evening nature walks. We flirted for a while."So,about your court cases ,how did it go?"I whispered."They got away with rape.I guess. That crooked judge gaveled ,'not guilty ' after wasting my presence and time in that court.Corruption never ceases !"She angrily responded."You mentioned about your suspected dad.How is your relationship with him?Since he became the fault cause of everything evil in your life?"I inquired."My relationship with my dad is worsening.I usually sneak in to bed as early as possible.Lock myself inside before any possible drunk incident that might break out,in the late nights!"Tina resonated."So how do you balance your social and, academic life. Now that your family is dysfunctional?"I curiously asked."I have you,Isak and many other girls for socializations,my mum's church, brought along other friends in my life. They keep me at par against my depressions.I also study away from home,at my friend's places or at the library."She added."Wow,I'm honored for that mention. Can I hold your hand as we walk?" "Yes you can." We held hands as we observed nature around for a while, before I asked her,"Tell me Ciku! What's your ideal man?" "I want a visionary man.Let's say a future doctor.I want to study medicine so that I could heal myself, people around me,and be a transformative voice of change in the long run." "Looks like we share the same visions.I would also love to heal those around me,and inspire change ."I replied ."I can't promise tomorrow, but I hope that you might be my ideal partner."She flirted as she rushed me off suddenly, slipping off her hand ,"Hey,let's go back in the school, we are just wandering aimlessly and it's getting cold and late.Lest we get into more troubles!"She stated even as we ran back to school almost losing track.
The return journey took place after departures.
The final term, was marred with academics ups and downs.I got scolded and shamed in class for dropping marks overally and in specific subjects.Such shaming aggravated my academic situations. The following internal exams;I drifted further in terms of positions but not much by marks. The term was also marked with gradual but continuous mailing and receiving of success cards. The cards had indelible words of comfort, inscripted words of luck and best of wishes.Others were attached with monies.Others with poetries of prayers. It didn't matter,if your name was not mentioned to receive a card. After all we embraced a spirit of sharing and caring in our class, that made love float in the air for the better part of such tensed periods. It was when I got mental issues after my bhang smoking friends(basketball crew) secretly exhaled smokes that affected me indirectly.Hallucinations at such times as those only made it worse,if my scolding teachers didn't take more advantages.
For the first time, my marks slided down to 350's /500 in such trajectory -decisive internal exams. I became an embarrassment to both my parents, teachers and all those who mailed their success cards in such anticipations.I couldn't confess what was really wrong when asked casually by concerned parties. They just demanded more improvements so that I could provide a better national exams outcome. Then concerned, Tina found me in library in a melancholy state while I was trying to revise, then she calmly asked,"What's wrong Pete? This time your marks have deteriorated much!I know you have become a scambag, laughing stock at home, in class. But maybe I could be of much aid only if you could open up to me?" "Okay, there are group of senior basketball students that I usually hang out with after training sessions. They usually, in their stealthiest misdemeanors, smoke cannabis for muscle stimulations. These smokes have affected my mental health.I couldn't concentrate in class.Geometry became an aggravating issue to my ever complaining Math teacher.Languages insinuated my respective teachers to develop an unlikely attitude towards me.Science became hard, even as I conspired to be a future doctor;circulatory system, nervous system, digestive systems, breathing systems became a nuisance subtlety..."
"I understand,I understand, but you still have a chance to improve, only if you can make it up now.We will topically review the tested subjects from tomorrow.Okay!" "Okay!"I acquiescented."But first ,let's watch a Manchester game just to alleviate such mental stresses. Then, next week we will continue with our academic journey." I interrupted.Watching games became a weekend tactic of dating Tina. She eventually got used to accompany me to such sites in weekend's sports jersey and vuvuzela. We cheered on and had lots of fun making noises.I also used my savings to buy soft drinks as we watched the interesting games.

Such intensive revisions with Isak and Tina slowly restored my mental capacity to comprehend what was previously blurry and incomprehensible. This change was marked by my significant notable improvement in the mid -term exams.I garnered a whooping 407/500marks regaining my overall top ten position.I had a reason to smile again.Fast forward and the rehearsals became a reality. We being the sole candidates and available pupils after the rest took early vacation breaks, then we arranged desks accordingly, cleaned the environment, and our supposed supervisors stipulated us the laid down rules and regulations in anticipation of facing our exams from the following day henceforth.
The exam period finally arrived. In such tensed environments ,I was able to relax even as we motivated each other before and after the exams. We practiced misdemeanors, where we used to discuss the questions we just tackled in the just concluded exams. This habit encouraged and discouraged some. Finally, we all stormed out of the exam room joyously after the last bell rang to signify the end of exam period.Isak sighed,"At long last, the final paper is done!" "I know right,we just have to wait for the after-party in the afternoon."I replied hysterically. We didn't go home, instead, the candidates under the administration's permissions, collaborated to prepare meals to celebrate our milestones.Only few teachers supervised our movements and actions by then.We were preparing pilau ,salad, muttons, and even did soda orders. The girls were in the kitchen working on vegetables, and meat preparations as they were also anticipated to serve while the boys were in charge of firewoods, and general cooking process while the utensils cleaning works was to be disturbed among us on agreeable terms. The event turned out to be successful even as we gaitely interacted. It was emotional to depart from my amicable classmates after that event .We hugged each other, and gave heartfelt' miss you' messages to each other.Others went further ahead to wish each other merry Christmas, happy new year and best of exam wishes.Tears of joys also trickled down amongst very close allies, when they hugged each other.
The extended holidays for our case ,saw significant transitional changes. For my case,I was taken to hospital after two weeks for circumcisions. In the company of my dad,we marched forward to a small dispensary for such services. From the horrific stories that I previously heard,I became a little bit feeble as we even marched to dispensary."Is it gonna hurt?"I asked dad. "No!It's just less painful."He reassured me.I was laid finally on the hospital bed, awaiting for surgical procedures on my penis's foreskin."Easy, calm down ,this is gonna be less painful only if you cooperate!"The doctor handholding his surgical tools tried to calm my body 's hesitations.I just wished for anaesthetic medicine to put me off for a while .It became terrifying to witness myself going through the knife at that very moment. Finally,I painfully underwent through the procedures. He quickly wounded up my profuse bleedings on my penis.I limped again as I left the dispensary in the company of my dad.We were solemnly advised to nurse the wound especially when I shower or loo ,and to monitor the situation for about a month, thereafter I would be able to remove bandages completely and perhaps walk normally .
For Tina, her holidays became horrific. Her dad became quarellsome despite being dispomaniac."You women, your work is just to get education, report us the breadwinners to the courts and gossip carelessly against our good reputations.Tina, I raised you up.Is this the kind of thanks I get? This house, you either behave accordingly, pay respect or pack up your things and start your departing journeys! You are big enough to look for other aptitude husbands out there!"Her dad barked."But dad,You know how drunk and misbehaving you have been to both my mum and I.How do you expect us to reciprocate respect while abusing us in the broad daylight?Even the neighbors, know what we are talking about before we tell them.Their walls have ears." "Shut up lass!I will soon marry you off,if you don't shut that mouth of yours!Since you're in long holidays ,your work here will be abundant.Your mum will take a break. You will be in charge of cooking, and cleanings around here.Talking, talking, that's what you best know. Understood!" "Yes dad!"Tina humbly replied.Due to respect for her husband,Tina's mum secretly helped Tina to carry out household chores. But Tina was over-laboured even as she was frequently sent to outside markets and shops when her dad hosted guests. At one time, she ran off away from her home when she was forcibly married off in the presence of her dad's guests. She hid for a while at her friend's place. Before her dad was summoned by village elders who brokered mediations. Her dad promised to stop drunkenness and such uncivilized traditional practices.Tina was for the first time in a long time proud of her dad. They reconciled to each other, and order prevailed in their home.
I was slowly convalescing. But my old cheeky habits never died ,however.I used to sneak out of my healing bed, just to gamble in the playstation zone.It stretched up to a point I became a thief, just to gratify my reckless addictions.Soon ,I was completely healed. My parents then granted me permissions to host a party in the housin order,to celebrate the transition.I invited a significant number of alumni including Isak and Tina. Then,my parents were away for work. That meant we were wild and free clueless teens after all.No adult supervisions, just a bunch of young pre-teens.From the loud radio systems,we loudly played secular music that irritated neighbors, danced wildly if not sexy in polarized genders.Tina,Isak and I were just mesmerized by the kind of guests we were hosting. The invitations and networking brought along strangers; bad girls along with their drug-addictive boyfriends.Weed smokings, and beer consumptions were all witnessed by us three,as we distanced ourselves after cutting the cake, and consuming snacks.Thank goodness,I only allowed Isak and Tina to have the honors of handing me over the pieces of cakes(over to my mouth).Otherwise I couldn't imagine if a drug addict would just embarrass me in such wild state of mind."We just hope this mess would be over before your parents soon step in the premises!"Isak sympathetically mentioned."Mister,You are sure in big trouble.Where did you get such guys?"Tina inquired curiously."I just said tell a friend to tell a friend. Then,I guess this became the outcome.I swear I never knew good guys had bad friends.Or perhaps they were wolves in sheep's skin?"I tried to defend myself."Anyway,we will just try to chase them away if we see the time has moved significantly."Tina tentatively said.Soon it struck five p.m,then Tina moved at the center. She then gave stop gestures to Isak who stood near the radio, after Isak reduced the volume to nil, then Tina courageously spoke, "Thank you guys for coming. We all enjoyed ourselves, had good times but now unfortunately we have to close down the curtains."Incredulously and dubiously in such high states, they agreed to leave the premises.I greeted them at the door even as they departed, one by one.I was soon taken to the Shelly beach at the south coast, along with my brother to culminate the end of transition celebrations. We swam through the turquoise sparse -populated stony sandy beach.Picked several souvenir natural shells along the shores, then stored them back home.
The following month was suddenly characterized by breaking news on national television concerning the official results announcements by the ministry of education in such decorated ceremonious event broadcasted live by the members of the fourth estate.Various indispensable stakeholders and board members in the ministry commented on the state of education in the country, the progress taken to curb menances like cheating and exam irregularities, exam mobilizations and registrations progress, and the general targets in terms of grade improvements. The permanent secretary echoed their words and disclosed future government plans before inviting the cabinet secretary for education. The work of the cabinet secretary was to basically give various statistics and previous comparisons concerning registration, irregularities, gender comparison performances on specific subjects, hierarchal distribution of marks in terms of range, meanscores of the top ten schools and finally the rankings of the top ten students nationally. The first student turned out to have an impressive score of 442/500.He added on about his earlier visits to state house, where they discussed future trajectories so as to perhaps foster future academic impressive performances, working along with the head of state. He gave statistics of possible high school intakes ,and mentioned only 23 percent didn't make it to the accepted high school standards scores before stating the official s.m.s where candidates could access their results on their phone. He recapitulated by thanking all who took part in making sure the exam tests, markings and results transmissions processes were successful. The media soon enough highlighted the fremescent joyous clamoring by various top-ranked schools and students along with their parents, relatives, friends, and teachers;being carried up like trophies singing praise songs ,walking with palm leaves as they danced in plenary joy unspeakable.
Soon enough,I went to the shop for airtime purchasing so that I could try and access my results but it proved futile after all.We waited after sending several texts but no replies were received. It was then we discovered in the on -going television coverage that there were technical hitches that delayed results nation wide.Students were therefore advised to visit their schools, since alternatively, results were transmitted through k.n.e.c portals accessible only by school .Anxious parents and candidates flooded their respective schools.Long queues were witnessed as people wanted to personally witness their results instead of being told.It was then again I met and greeted Tina as we distantly queued.
Afterwards,it was then known that I scored 402/500,ranked seventh in the school, while Tina scored 407/500,ranked sixth."Wow,we both scored impressive scores. But at last ,I defeated you."Tina bragged in smiles."It was by luck, after going through misfortunes, but thanks for holding my hand .I had gave up,I was almost paranoid. Now I do hope we will pursue medicine in the future."I mentioned as we hugged each other. We also got a chance to interact with our friends, guardians and parents before departing home. Most students surpassed their targets in our school, decorating our meanscore to be the best compared to previous years.
Soon enough, every student knew their highschool pathways after accessing such informations from their respective schools. We did clearances with primary school;returning all textbooks, paydamaging fees and school fees before accessing results slips and clearance forms. We looked forward in such optimism of a brighter future ahead.
