Rein's journey took him into the far north of the dragon empire where the legendary Dragon Queen ruled. It was said that she was the most powerful among all dragons and among the few ancient beings with intelligence and magic to equal her own. Rein had known that bringing her down would be tough. She had played many tricks, even entering dreams and controlling minds. As he stepped into her lair, the Queen greeted him with a calm, regal smile; she hardly seemed disturbed by his presence; it was as though she had been expecting him. "So, warrior," her words flowed rich with ancient authority, "you would wish to destroy me? To destroy all of us?"
He felt the power emanating from her, but his rage drowned any fear. "Your reign ends now."
The following battle was nothing short of catastrophic. The very earth shuddered as they laid into fire, ice, and magic in pure display of power. While the Queen's magic was indeed powerful, Rein's rage was greater. Every strike and spell was motivated by memories of the atrocities committed by the dragons. Finally, Rein poured an outpouring of flame, roaring defiance, all-consuming enough to sweep the Queen off her feet and leave nothing but ashes in its wake.
After the smoke lifted, Rein saw an artifact that rested in the ashes: a crystal, glowing softly, meditating with the heart of ancient magic. The Dragon Queen had been guarding it, and it was his now.
