Chapter 31 - Steel Meets Starfire

Different Paths, Same Destiny

As the massive crowds poured into Havoc's Bastion Arena,

the Dawnbreakers found themselves… splitting up.

Kaelen and Iselyra: Food Hunters

Kaelen had no interest in the tournament spectacle.

As soon as Zaraya was registered, he simply turned away —

wandering toward the sprawling open-air bazaar at the edge of the arena compound.

Here, food stalls from across the galaxy churned out exotic dishes:

Roasted blazebird from the Vaelcyn wilds.

Syrvannis fire-crawlers glazed in inferno honey.

Sweet nebula fritters spun from drift-dust berries.

Kaelen moved quietly through the crowds, sampling plates without hurry —

utterly unfazed by the chaos around him.

"You're supposed to be brooding, not eating," Iselyra muttered, sticking close to him.

Kaelen simply shrugged.

"Even warriors need to live."

Iselyra, ever cautious, stayed by his side —

half to enjoy a few stolen moments of normalcy,

half to make sure they didn't accidentally trigger a tavern brawl.

(It would happen anyway. Just not yet.)

Jaxen: The Unwilling Gladiator

Jaxen, meanwhile, discovered — much to his horror —

that Zaraya had signed him up too…

as a "special exhibition wildcard."

"YOU DID WHAT?!" he hissed, dragging her aside.

"It's character building," Zaraya said cheerfully. "Besides, you could use the exercise."

Jaxen groaned,

glanced at the matchup screen —

and nearly fainted.

His first opponent?

A seven-foot-tall ex-mercenary nicknamed "The Bonebreaker"

armed with shock mauls the size of hoverbikes.

"I'm gonna die," Jaxen muttered. "I'm gonna die in front of everyone."

Zaraya clapped him on the back.

"Naaah. Maybe just horribly maimed."

(Supportive Captain energy.)

Plo: Research Champion

Plo, meanwhile, had willingly signed herself up:

"For scientific purposes," she said proudly.

Her match was hilarious:

Her opponent was a hulking brute from the Volkrath Syndicate —

all muscle, no brain.

When the duel started, Plo simply teleported onto Drex's back,

zipped behind her opponent,

and tagged him out with a simple shock device to the neck —

before he could even swing once.

The crowd roared with laughter and shock.

Plo bowed primly to the judges, recording notes furiously:

"Hypothesis confirmed: Overconfidence in larger opponents leads to predictable tactical vulnerabilities."

Drex barked triumphantly.

Zaraya: The Storm Unleashed

And then there was Zaraya.

Her match against Krayzix the Red became an instant legend.

Krayzix charged with a roar, plasma chain-axes blazing.

Zaraya met him mid-field —

ducked under one axe —

caught the second with her cosmic-charged bare hand —

and ripped the weapon free with a surge of energy.

The crowd gasped.

Krayzix tried to bull-rush her —

but Zaraya simply smiled.

One blow.

One cosmic meteor punch square to the chest —

BOOM.

The shockwave rattled the arena walls.

Krayzix flew back ten meters, unconscious before he hit the ground.

The forcefields trembled trying to contain the impact.

Silence —

then absolute roaring chaos from the crowd.

The Dawnbreakers' name skyrocketed across Havoc's Bastion in seconds.

Aftermath: Different Victories

Kaelen and Iselyra found the best fried nebula fritters on the station and quietly enjoyed the chaos from afar.

Jaxen, barely breathing after somehow stunning the Bonebreaker, limped off the field —

face white, but arms raised in exhausted victory.

Plo happily accepted her prize: a stack of research credits and a rare gravity-stabilizer chip.

And Zaraya?

Zaraya stood atop the shattered arena floor,

raising her fist to the roaring crowd, cosmic light swirling around her.

The Dawnbreakers had arrived.

Unseen Moves

Across the station, bounty hunters and syndicate agents watched from the shadows.

Whispers spread.

Offers were made.

Bounties were raised.

The Cult quietly flagged their names across hidden networks.

The Dawnbreakers were no longer just a myth.

They were a threat.

And every power in the galaxy was starting to take notice
