Cherreads

Chapter 3 - Chapter 3

I made my way back home, read a book or two and slept my way through out the day. The loud ringing and vibration coming from my phone immediately pulled me out of my trance. I glanced at the caller to see it was my mom. I could immediately guess why she was calling me.

" Hey mom" I said as I answered the call.

"Hey honey, I was expecting your call or for you to come back here, but you didn't."

" O sorry about that, I guess I was just really stressed out after the interview so I went back to my apartment.

" I understand honey, so how was it?? she asked.

"Well first off someone spilled coffee on my dress right at the entrance of the company and instead of a man doing the interview...there was a hot lady, and she was soooo intimidating and extremely beautiful, I felt so intimidated but she seemed nice though."

" Sounds like a lot, pity you couldn't get to see what your boss looked like, but do you think You landed the job.? She asked.

" I can't be sure, she noticed the stain on my dress and pointed it out, and there was another girl, she looked so coordinated and really pretty.

" Try not to loose hope honey, I'm sure you did great and it will be their loss not to hire you, and apart from that I called to remind you about our dinner this night. I hope you didn't forget." She asked.

Oh Shit, I actually forgot, how could I forget. " Of course I didn't forget" I lied.

I'd surely meet you there." I said.

" That's lovely Serena, OK talk to you later I'm on my way to the saloon. Love you" She said before turning of the call.

****************

My eyes couldn't help but trace along the smooth golden letters that placed front and center against the top of the building where I was set to be having dinner tonight. Avalon . I had never heard of such a thing so this would be a new experience for me.

I adored the letters for a little while before the wind started to blow, my legs filled with goosebumps as my dress stopped mid thigh, nothing baring to cover my skin.

I made my way into the restaurant and just as I thought the inside looked so lovely. There was little to no noise, the subtle soft sounds of people speaking being very apparent and soft, soft music playing in the halls. The scent of vanilla and sandal wood made me instantly fall in love with this place.

I held my clutch bag in hand as I looked at the gentleman in front of me, standing behind a small booth with a small screen on top." Welcome to Acadia. Party for one?" His voice sounded so smooth as if he had been trained to speak that way.

I shook my head softly ." Yes please, I am joining a party of one." Ellis" I told him my last name and he tapped around the screen for a few seconds before smiling and nodding quickly as he had saw the information, a reservation my mother had placed.

" She's just arrived. Right this way" he moved his body around the booth as he lead the way for me to follow behind him.

On our way there we had passed different parts of the restaurant and they all looked exceptionally elegant. I had briefly searched the restaurant up so I knew that the Decor would be formal, just as the dress code was. The walls of the restaurant looked to be covered in black and white colors but mostly black outlining it. The aura of the restaurant wasn't dark at all despite the the color.

People sat around tables, black cloth spread across, dark black silverware, golden plates that held their deliciously looking food on top. Medium sized menus that were black in color with gold letters written on them.

Here you are. I hope you enjoy your meal, please have a seat someone will be with you shortly" The man who's name I learned was Fred smiled as I sat in my seat, looking across from my mother who smiled as she had her eyes glued to his back view as he walked away from our table.

She turned her face to me, a menacing smile tagging along. I could already tell what was going on in her head.

" Fine piece of work huh? I wonder if he's single" her cheeks rose again as I shook my head at her. She was always so cheeky.

I reached across the table placing my hand across the menu." I'm sure he's not even up to half your age" I said to her, receiving a shake of her head. I averted my gaze back to her.

" Not for me, for you. Don't you think it's time you found someone of your own" she raised an eyebrow. I only rolled my eyes at her, placing my eyes back against the menu that had a variety of the finest food. Most of which I hadn't heard of before. I looked at the menu wondering what to order, most of what I saw felt foreign to me.

"Did you hear me, Serena?" I looked at my mother and nodded.

"Yes mom I heard you, what is meant for me will eventually come for me. If I somehow meet a man the I'll let fate do it's thing." I said before gently sitting the menu back in it's holder.

" My mother rolled her eyes, she was never a fan of when I spoke about fate." The apple definitely falls far from the tree. Baby when I was your age I would go to the finest places and look for the perfect man. You really are nothing like me". She said.

I scoffed while nodding my head." And you see how that turned out for you. Tell me when was the last time you laid eyes or even heard from Dad? I'm sure you don't even remember what he looks like!!" She gave me a thin liped smile, knowing I had beat her at her own game.

My father had been absent in my life for as long as I could remember. I never met him and I'm sure I wouldn't be able to tell what he looks like if I was to see him now. My mom would always give advice of finding the perfect and finest man, but somehow ended up with my father.

"So what fine place did you find him from? I asked a sly grin creeping up my face.

She squinted her eyes a little smile on her face. " Baby your father was a complete idiot, And I only realized that when I had conceived you at the age of twenty seven. And God forbid I'd have an abortion, I couldn't even think of such a thing, and that was exactly what he pushed for. I loved him but no way was I going to do such a thing, especially after I had found out that he was a married man and his wife was also expecting a child just like I was. I wanted to ruin his life, but then what would happen to the poor woman calling her self his wife." She rolled her eyes.

Just then the waiter approached our table. " The wine you requested ma'am. Are you two ready to order?" He sat two clean wine glasses down onto the table and started to pour the red liquid.

I nodded. " I think I'll have the alfredo pasta with sweet and spicy Mackerel. I said and he nodded before looking over to my mother.

He went to lift the bottle up, it clinging together with the wine glass and tipping over. It fell flat on the table, my mother being covered in the red liquid, her cream colored dress having a red shade to it now.
