Cherreads

Chapter 1 - chapter 1

Hey loves,

I just wanted to let you know that (burning romance) now Laws of Desire is back-but with a twist. I first wrote this story when I was 16, and reading it again made me realize there were a lot of things that needed a little glow-up (okay, maybe a full makeover).

So, I've decided to republish it-edited, refined, and more in tune with the writer I am today. Some scenes have changed, some characters have grown, and the overall vibe is smoother (and way less cringe-I promise).

Thank you for giving it another chance. I hope you enjoy the new version just as much, or even more.

With love,

Plotwistbabe.

Janelle's pov

I handed the blonde guy his cup of coffee with a soft smile, then leaned slightly to give his daughter a playful grin.

"Stop by later," I said, brushing a strand of hair behind my ear.

"I will, for sure!" she chirped back, her little voice ridiculously cute.

Next in line was a middle-aged woman with a face that looked like life owed her something.

"Black coffee," she snapped.

"Coming right up, ma'am."

"I've got other places to be. Don't waste my time," she added, nose in the air.

"Can't you see I'm doing exactly what you asked?" I muttered under my breath, forcing a customer-service smile.

Some customers can be rude as hell. But don't worry-I know just how to deal with this breed.

"No milk," she said sharply, as though I planned to sabotage her drink with cream.

"Sure, no milk," I repeated sweetly and turned to brew the coffee. And yes, I added her special request-with a dash of my own 'spicy' touch.

She dropped the money on the counter like I was beneath her. I handed her the cup with a grin.

"Stop by later," I cooed.

She glared and stormed off. Oh, just wait till your tastebuds start dancing in hellfire.

"Tell me you didn't add pepper to her coffee," Kelly, my best friend and co-worker, said as she popped up beside me.

"You guessed right."

"Ellie, one day you're gonna get yourself fired. I know you're crazy, but can you try to be less crazy?"

"She started it," I folded my arms and pouted. "I had to act."

"Can't you just be nice for once?"

"I am nice."

"No, you're not," she deadpanned.

I rolled my eyes. "Do you have any better topic?"

"Yup."

"Well, spill."

"We're going clubbing tonight."

"For reals?" My voice raised a little too loud, turning a few heads in our direction.

"Uh-huh."

"Finally! It's been forever since I got laid. I seriously need someone hot to warm my pussy."

"You and these one-night stands."

"Why not? Life's short."

Kelly shook her head, already dashing off to take another order. "We'll talk about this later!"

-

My name is Janelle Morgan, and I'm twenty-three years old. A law graduate-yep, I made it through the dark pits of law school, but I'm currently making coffee for grumpy customers. Why? That's a long story for another day.

I live with my overprotective older brother Jayden-he's 27, annoyingly hot-headed, and thinks he's my third parent. I also have another big brother, Jeremy, who's 33 and already married. They both spoil and guard me like I'm some fragile gem.

I've got dirty blonde hair, light green eyes, and a thing for trouble.

-

My shift finally ended and I got home. I made some pasta, ate alone, washed the dishes, and left the leftovers for Jayden in the microwave.

"Janelle, I'm home!" he yelled like he was announcing a royal entrance.

"Do you have to scream every time you come in?"

"I've got good news!"

I perked up. "Spill."

"You're finally gonna be a lawyer."

"Wait, for real?" My eyes widened. "That's great! How're you pulling this off?"

Jayden gave me that smug look. "Let's just say I have connections."

"Jay..." I warned.

"There's this friend of mine. Owns a firm. I told him about you and he's agreed to give you a shot. He'll be stopping by tomorrow, so please, be on your best behavior."

"Oh my God, this is amazing! I love you!" I lunged at him for a hug.

"Eww, get off me!"

"You're lucky I'm hugging you," I teased.

"You wish."

"So... how's Erin?" I asked, referring to his girlfriend-well, more like fiancée.

"She's good. We're planning a trip to visit Mom and Dad soon."

"You really sure you want to spend the rest of your life with her?"

"Of course. And that reminds me..."

"Here we go," I muttered.

"When are you going to get a boyfriend?"

"When I feel like it. Besides, you threatened the last guy I brought home."

"He looked like a damn criminal! What was I supposed to do?"

"And that's exactly why I'll never have a boyfriend."

"Fine, fine. I promise not to interfere anymore."

"Good. I made dinner."

"Thanks."

"Oh, and Jay... Kelly and I are going out tonight. Girls' night."

"No way. The last time you did, you came back dead drunk."

"I promise not to get drunk this time."

"This is the last time. If Mom finds out I let you stay out late again, she'll murder me in my sleep."

"And that's why I love you."

"You're creepy."

************

It was 8 PM when Kelly arrived in my room, dressed in a red fitted gown that put her cleavage on full display. I pulled on my black strapless mini dress-the one that barely covered my ass-and settled with a g-string. No bra needed.

I slipped on my black stilettos, curled my hair, and checked myself out in the mirror.

"Typical bad girl," I smirked.

"Let's go!"

We snuck out through the back door-because if Jayden saw what I was wearing, he'd either lock me in or insist on tagging along like some guard dog.

We took a cab to the club. When we arrived, I looked up at the glowing neon sign: Club 25.

"Kelly!" I hissed. "What are we doing here? We're not 25!"

She smirked and whipped out two fake IDs.

"Boom."

"Seriously?"

"Let's go."

After bribing the massive bouncer at the entrance, we finally got in. The place was already pulsing with music, lights, and a sea of bodies.

We headed to the bar.

"Two shots of tequila!" Kelly ordered.

The bartender winked. "Coming right up."

We clinked glasses. I downed my first shot-it burned my throat in the best way. Then another.

By her third shot, Kelly was already tipsy.

"Let's dance!" she yelled, dragging me to the dance floor before I could respond.

The music throbbed in my chest as we moved our hips. Kelly was already giggling.

"I love apples!" she shouted randomly.

She always said the dumbest things when she was drunk.

"Hell yes, you do!" I laughed.

Then suddenly...

I felt a hand slide around my waist.

What do you think, lovelies?

Leave your thoughts in the comments-it seriously keeps me going! And hey, be kind. No hate here, just vibes.

See you on the next chapter.
