Chapter 1 - Servant

Mo Lingxu looked at his room with a bitter expression and a sour heart. This was once again another day waking up, another day he hoped he had died and travelled through time and space again.

That's right – this is his second life! In his first, he died in his sleep after working overtime for many years. He was full of resentment towards his boss and his colleagues, having just planned to take revenge, when he suddenly died and travelled to this world.

At first, he thought it was good fortune. At least he didn't have to live as a poor person, since his family was rich – until he gained the memories of the previous owner, who died of… abuse!

"Born in a family but having a foreign surname, if I'm not destined to be hated, then I would wake up laughing every day!" he said sourly.

His family history was depressing yet also cliché. When his father was young, he found a beautiful, injured girl in the mountains. Without much thought, he decided to take her as his concubine.

She herself was semi-conscious the whole time, still hurt. People called her retarded and were disdainful of this girl who looked too young to marry.

Shortly after her marriage, she was found pregnant, which delighted Lingxu's father. Simply said, she was beautiful and only served to produce heirs. His own wife only bore him a daughter at that time.

Lingxu was born and his mother died at childbirth – still barely conscious. Only the moment she was able to hold him for a second did she seem to regain her mind. She looked at him deeply with shining eyes, then died.

Time passed and this son which was supposed to be the heir turned out to be retarded, just like his mother. He was despised behind closed doors but still treated like a young master, until the wife bore a son who became the legitimate heir, so instead, this stupid duckling was kicked away.

He still had a blood relation, so they wouldn't really send him out of the house, but they returned his surname to that of his mother, something she said in the few moments where she was a bit brighter.

Afterwards, they made him a servant who would take care of his younger brother. Of course they named it differently, but in the end, his own position was even lower than the servants. His younger brother also grew up and treated him like a donkey.

'Other transmigrators have wealthy families who love them, even if there is a bad uncle or two, it's very easy to solve once they get their cheats. When they are born poor, they still have a good family who loves them and gives up everything for them. Even the orphaned travellers still have a somewhat good life!

And then there's me… born in a wealthy family but despised by everyone… even if there are some issues mentally, you can just assign him a room in this large yard and a servant who takes care of me! Who would treat their children like this!

My mother too… how could you just take a random girl who looks good as your concubine? She's not even properly conscious but you force things… this is disgusting! Ah, it's been three months. The previous Lingxu and I have the same name and birthday. After this night, I will be ten years old. At such a young age, I'm already treated like this. Life is so unfair!'

He stood up mid-sigh, knowing that even though it was very early in the morning, he didn't have this right. Servants would also wake up around this time, clocking in into work, doing many things one can't see behind the back.

Although his room was relatively large, strictly speaking, he only had one bed and one table. The rest was storage space for many different things, the rooms besides this living room were used for other things. His large reception room was actually the study, the backroom was a small library…

'It feels more and more like I'm the housekeeper of my own yard… well, a housekeeper would probably have a larger room which he could use fully for his own things.'

He quickly put things on. Fortunately, he could do so, he wasn't used to the whole idea of being served. At one point he thought it'd be a nice experience, but then he saw his younger brother being dressed, and knew that it was more annoying than a help.

Being born in a modern society, efficiency is very important, engraved deep down in his bones. Even if he had the patience to clothe himself in a relaxed manner, he wouldn't have the patience of three people trying to put clothes on him like they're dusting an old expensive vase.

At this point he had crossed for over three months, so he knew the drill. Although he was efficient, he still saw other servants being faster 'Well… if it was a professional servant from my last life, they would probably get a servant of the century award here…'

He quickly walked to his younger brother's room using a life principle 'Act busy, act busy, act busy' – this was even more effective here, people really thought that when you walked faster, you had somewhere to be.

His brother's mansion was close to his… or rather, it was his former mansion, and he was pretty much living in the smaller mansion next doors supposed to be used by the chief servant. Naturally he got the smaller left servant mansion, the real chief servant lived in the right mansion, in true luxury.

He entered the courtyard and walked until he reached his brother's room, where he stood still, waiting. Soon, other servants came one after another, waiting with him. Some energic ones had the peace of mind to give Lingxu mocking gazes, others just ignored him.

It wasn't long until the chief steward came. He looked at everyone, counting the number of servants and making sure everyone who should arrive, arrived. Some more time passed, and a little 'ding' sound was heard from the chief steward's arm.

A small band was bound at his arm with a little bell hanging down. It was a spiritual tool similar to an alarm. Lingxu was already used to the ingenious creations in the world of cultivation. At first, he thought it was some machinery, but later on he gained the memories and understood this was the world of cultivation.

Little clans such as their Zhou clan who didn't even reach the first-grade immortal cultivation family because they don't have a spiritual vein live with mortals. Fortunately, the general spiritual environment is good, enabling cultivators to cultivate to the second stage even without a spiritual vein…

The disadvantage of not having one is that they basically can't pull enough spiritual power for breakthroughs and even other activities that use up a lot of spiritual power at once are basically impossible to achieve. Spiritual veins are very important, even first grade ones.

Hearing the ding sound, every servant straightened their backs and entered solemnly, wishing in their heart that the young master wouldn't be moody today.
