The gravity device in the laboratory was originally designed to test the performance of Mecha under changing gravity conditions. Fatty used it to train control and hand speed; probably, he was the only one in the Federation who did this. Some people might have thought of it, but they didn't have the conditions to train anytime and anywhere.
During the battle with [Vajra] while rescuing Russell, Fatty had understood the true meaning of Mechanical Combat. So, after his hand speed hit a bottleneck, apart from using various sneaky moves, his real training focused heavily on combining basic commands with fighting skills.
In Fatty's view, being sneaky is in his nature, it doesn't need training at all. He just didn't know how Milan would react upon seeing [Logic] with that thing installed — whether she'd be so shocked she'd pass out, or she'd simply blow him away with random gunfire.
Since he needed to combine physical fighting skills with training, Fatty started browsing through data on various martial arts schools from Ancient Earth.
The combat data that had been passed down was really scarce. Milan helped search for quite a while and finally found a set of physical training data from an Ancient Earth military laboratory on an old computer in Professor Boswell's lab.
Fatty was overjoyed with the discovery, hugging and kissing Milan passionately, his lips moving incredibly agile, like an elephant's trunk. It was hard to tell if he was kissing or smelling Milan's pink cheeks. Milan almost had to kick and push to escape his demon kiss, fleeing with a red face.
No wonder Fatty was so excited. This almost ancient Earth pre-Human Alliance human potential research data included grappling, combat, Hard Qi Gong and Martial Arts from various schools on Earth. Fatty had never seen or even heard of some of the research materials.
After humanity entered the space age, those materials were gradually abandoned because, for over a thousand years, the infantry as a military unit virtually disappeared. Close combat might have been a joke back then. The resource-rich humans invested heavily in war, with most attacks being long-range and most battles fought in the air.
Aside from changes in combat methods, the massive loss of fighting skills heavily related to the transition from the Earth era to the space age. During massive human migration, various schools spread out across the boundless universe with space migration ships. Without communication and under the pressure of survival, many schools gradually vanished.
What barely survived were virtually just ornamental forms.
Another significant reason was racial discrimination. The division between upper and lower class people completely isolated their interactions.
Thus, during the over a thousand years where warfare was dominated by space, military combat skills were entirely abandoned, and various civilian schools either dispersed or went extinct.
Later on, with the advent of Mechas, which seized ground control from the Overlord status of war machines, the form of warfare returned to the past. Fully Mechanized Infantry and Mecha army cooperation eventually became the key to determining the outcome of ground wars. Air strikes, though still playing an important role, no longer dominated everything.
With the revaluation of combat training for soldiers by various national armies, the training routines that had been neglected for over a thousand years inevitably saw some changes when they were revived. Through years of refining, current military fighting skills had significantly diverged from Ancient Earth's, becoming more direct and entirely reliant on power and speed.
If one were to compare, ancient Earth's soldiers would undoubtedly lose to today's soldiers due to the vast differences in technological levels. Contemporary soldiers train in specialized room, recovering from injuries in treatment pods, and rejuvenating overnight on therapeutic beds after exhausting training. Ancient Earth's soldiers had no such luxuries, so unless someone had high personal talent, today's soldiers held absolute advantages in speed and power.
This doesn't mean that the rich fighting skills of Ancient Earth were useless; to Fatty, they were treasures money couldn't buy!
Seeing the strange grappling techniques in the data, the fierce moves to defeat enemies in one strike, the Hard Qi Gong that breaks bricks and stones, the soft-overcomes-hard Tai Chi, the brutal Muay Thai, and the agile Taekwondo, he realized that not only could these techniques compensate for the deficiencies in modern combat, but the ancient body-training methods also had great value.
Tian Xingjian could completely imagine the effects these techniques would have when converted into Mecha Fighting through commands, and what benefits training in the gravity chamber would bring to breaking through his bottleneck.
He quickly determined the subjects he needed to train: Yoga and Tai Chi!
With Tian Xingjian's current physique, his speed, strength, and explosiveness were far above average. Therefore, grappling and striking enemies in one move were just about familiarizing himself with the techniques. Muay Thai was helpful in hardening various body parts but useless for breaking through hand speed. Other disciplines like Taekwondo primarily relied on explosiveness and speed, not differing much from modern combat methods and were somewhat inferior, yet some techniques could be borrowed.
Tian Xingjian felt he lacked body flexibility.
His current training method had reached its limit. Only by combining hardness with softness could he break through; relying solely on brute force was not the right path.
Tai Chi's smoothness and Yoga's flexibility and coordination could help him unlock all the untapped potential.
After recording and becoming proficient in these two exercises, Fatty locked himself back into the gravity chamber, practicing circling in ten times the gravity, or contorting himself into various shapes while thinking: If this pose was added to the Seventy-two sex positions, it should count as a new move, right?
His deadliest thought was having Milan and Ann Lei come over. Everyone stripping naked and contorting together seemed like it could be quite fun.
Tian Xingjian was undoubtedly highly perceptive. In his constant Tai Chi and Yoga training, he discovered many combat techniques that didn't require as much strength, and his hand speed began showing signs of breaking through the bottleneck.
The various combat techniques were just a small part of this research project. Another part concerning scientific methods to assist development bore many similarities to modern physical training methods, which was astounding considering this was research from thousands of years ago in Earth's era!
Moreover, the research even verified other astonishing potential development methods. The most refined and successful one was a training method that combined martial arts from various global schools with military training, selecting the beneficial parts, researching and combining them. The trained warriors had data that, in Fatty's view, was not far off from modern ordinary warriors.
Thus, Fatty began a new round of strenuous training, running in the gravity chamber, weight training, kicking wooden stakes, practicing Tai Chi, walking Eight Diagram, holding breath while taking hits, and other miscellaneous exercises.
Milan, having seen so much, eventually couldn't be bothered with him, as this Fatty was so afraid of death that he would stop without needing any reminder if something was wrong.
The only issue Milan had with Fatty was that whenever he trained in those contorting and folding exercises, he'd look at her with those sheepish eyes, lecherously making her uneasy.
