As she approached the light blue BMW, the doors swung open, revealing a mysterious couple, Leila and Antonio, their faces etched with concern. And then, in a flash of movement, the figure flung herself into Leila's arms, nearly knocking her off balance.
"I've missed you so much, Mum," she exclaimed, her voice muffled against Leila's shoulder.
Leila's expression turned concerned, her voice filled with care. "Mara, how have you been? We've missed you so much."
Mara pulled back, a pout on her face. "I hate it here, Mum. I want to come home, please."
Antonio's eyes narrowed slightly as he spoke. "Mara, you know what we discussed. You need to stay in school and play along."
Mara's expression turned sulky, but she seemed to understand. "Fine, Dad. But I don't have to like it."
Leila's expression turned soothing. "Mara, sweetie, you need to trust us. We're doing this for your own good." The three of them continued to talk and seemed to have forgotten about the last person' presence.
Just then, Vivian spoke up, his voice laced with mock hurt. "Ahem, it seems my dear sister has forgotten about me… sigh, it's only been five months."
Mara rolled her eyes good-naturedly. "Oh Vivian, how can you say that? You know I've missed you most."
Vivian smirked, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Much better. Now, shall we head inside? The ceremony awaits." Vivian said as he took the lead and walked inside with the family following behind.
As they walked towards the main hall, Mara felt a sense of unease settle over her. She glanced at her father, his eyes gleaming with an intensity that made her shiver. It looked like he had planned something very mysterious, and something big was going to happen that night. She knew she had to play her part, but she couldn't shake off the feeling that something was off.
…
As they entered the grand hall, all eyes turned towards Mara and her family. Their wealthy demeanor commanded attention, and they exuded an air of opulence as they made their way to their designated table. The whole family took their seats together and and waited patiently to be served dinner.
