Eve, swathed in a pair of midnight blue suits with perfectly tailored pants, stepped down from the car and walked over to stand right next to Malakai who had his gloved hands shoved into the pocket of his knee-length coat. He was staring at the building right in front of them.
She glanced at the watch clasped around her wrist. It was seven fifty-nine p.m. and Patro was waiting for them right inside that building.
Drawing a deep breath, she asked, "Shall we?"
Malakai lowered his gaze at her and instead of responding, he removed his hand out of his pocket—something in his grip.
Eve eyed the pistol he held. "Take it," he said to her.
"Why?"
"We're going in there unsure what Patro is planning. Hold it for your safety, doll, and shoot if you even feel threatened. Don't wait to be shot first." His fingers brushed through her unbound hair, tucking a few strands behind her ear. "Do you understand me?"
Eve stared at him. "You don't want me to go in there with you, do you?"
