The next day, Kayla and Kayden were on their way out of the apartment when they were approached by bodyguards.
Kayden pulled Kayla behind him in a protective stance and stared at the bodyguards warily, "Who are you guys?"
Kayden bore so much resemblance to Leo that the bodyguards subconsciously behaved very respectfully towards the kids as one of them replied, "Mr. Leo had asked us to pick you up, Young Master."
Kayden raised his eyebrows at the mention of "Mr. Leo". Based on what he had investigated, the man who was likely to be his father was called Mr. Leo by most people. Since he and his sister were on their way to see him, they might as well go with the bodyguards.
"Okay, let's go then," Kayden answered.
Once they were in the car, Kayla started touching the various parts of the car's interior with her small hands. Moving closer to Kayden, she commented softly, "Kayden, it's so comfortable sitting in this car. If he's really our daddy, then Mommy will not have to work so hard. She can have an easier life."
Kayden's face was tensed as he nodded in agreement. Based on the information he had gathered, this ready-made dad was someone eminent. With this man's status and powerful influence, it would be a lot easier to make those who had bullied their mommy pay for what they did in the past.
Kayden thought about the loathsome pair - Stella and Xavier - and his eyes narrowed as he clenched his jaw. Kayden was very gifted in the area of technology, and he had used his tech-savvy skills a year ago to find out what had happened to his mother six years back.
Kayla stuck her face next to the bodyguard who was driving the car and asked innocently, "Mister, what is my Daddy like? Does he hit children?" Because of her fair-skin and good looks, it was hard for anyone to dislike Kayla. Her actions were usually interpreted as cuteness in the eyes of others.
"Mr. Leo is..." The bodyguard was about to put in a good word for Leo when an image of a stern -faced Leo popped into his head. Leo was a decisive and ruthless man, and he did not like children... The bodyguard glanced at Kayla with pity in his eyes. He wasn't sure if Leo would not hit such an adorable little girl.
"Well, Mr. Leo usually doesn't hit others if they don't anger him first." The bodyguard finally replied. Those who had angered Leo were either seriously injured or dead. The one who got away with the least injuries had to spend the rest of his life in a wheelchair. When he thought about this, the bodyguard's sympathy for the pair of twins increased.
Kayla nodded and said earnestly, "Okay! Daddy definitely can't bear to hit us, since my brother and I are such adorable kids."
It was good that Kayla was filled with confidence.
At the Gateway Specialist Hospital, Zachary could not stop pacing around. Every so often, he would raise his head and look towards the entrance to see if the car that Leo had sent to pick the kids had arrived yet.
Leo was leaning against a pillar when he glanced at Zachary with annoyance, "Zac, I'll break your neck if you don't stop your pacing."
Leo was getting a little dizzy with all of Zachary's pacing in front of him.
"Tsk tsk..." Undaunted, Zachary moved next to Leo and chided him, "Leo, you're going to scare the kids with your dour face, they might not even want you as their father, even if the DNA test says so."
For the first time in his life, Leo began to ponder on this possibility as he put a hand to his chin in a thinking posture.
Zachary was surprised to see Leo reacting this way. When they were discussing this yesterday, Leo had been confident in reuniting with his kids, but now, it looked like Leo was a human after all - there were things that even Leo could not be certain about.
After a while, Leo asked faintly, "Am I very stern?"
Zachary smacked his lips in excitement. This was not a chance to be missed. He started to criticize Leo, "Your face has 'do not come near me' written all over it, Leo. Everyone is scared of you. Take my advice, smile more when you see the twins later. Put on a kind look, otherwise..." Zachary stopped purposely and shrugged.
Leo's brow furrowed deeper. He was about to reply to Zachary when he spotted his car approaching the hospital entrance. Straightening his body, Leo did not realize that he was actually nervous about meeting the twins again. After checking that his attire looked flawless, he strode towards the car.
Zachary raised his eyebrows as he watched Leo moved towards the car. He was looking forward to a good show. Leo was a cold-hearted man all these years, and nothing seemed to be able to move him. Because of the twins, he was finally going to witness a different side to Leo. There was truly something amazing about kinship. It could even make someone like Leo, who dislikes children, soften considerably and start caring for others.
...
The bodyguard opened the door and said respectfully, "Young Master and Miss, we are here."
Kayden held Kayla's hand as they got out of the car. When he saw Leo approaching out of the corner of his eye, his face clearly tensed up again.
"Kayden, it's Daddy." Kayla's eyes beamed with pleasure as she tickled Kayden's palm, "He's very handsome! And he's very tall! I like him very much!"
Kayla had used three 'very' in her positive comments of Leo. To her, it was the best way to indicate her fondness of Leo.
Although Kayden was wise beyond his years, he was still a little child deep in his heart. Like other children, he had desire for a fatherly figure in his life. So although he had tensed up at seeing Leo, his eyes reflected his desire for Leo as his father.
If Leo proved to be a reliable man and could protect his mother and sister at all costs, Kayden wouldn't mind including Leo into his list of potential daddies. Of course, if this man couldn't protect them, then he would not acknowledge Leo, even if the DNA test proved they were related. Kayden would select another worthier man for his mother.
Once Leo stood in front of them, Kayla stared unblinking at him as she asked in her cute girly voice, "Are you our Daddy?"
Leo felt a stirring deep within his heart and soon, his heart began to melt. There was an impulse urge to embrace the little girl in front of him as Leo began to think of all the beautiful words he could use to describe Kayla. He thought the little girl was so exquisitely made and so adorable and lovely...
Kayla titled her head cutely as a hurt look appeared on her face, "Daddy, why didn't you reply my question? Do you not like me?"
Leo felt a dull pain in his heart as thought someone had hit hard onto his chest.
Zachary was standing not far from them, and he was gloating over Leo's misfortune. He wanted to see what Leo would do to coax the little girl. With this little girl looking so mischievous and the little boy looking aloof, Zachary sensed that there would be a lot of fun in the Yancey family with both of them around.
"Of course I like you." Leo managed to squeeze out this answer awkwardly. But when he thought about what Zachary had warned earlier, Leo was worried that he had hurt Kayla's feelings with his curt answer. In the next second, however, he looked down to see Kayla hugging his leg without any fear. At this moment, even a man like Leo who was used to keeping a poker face in all situations couldn't help but crack a smile.
Kayla declared cutely, "Daddy, I knew it! You like both me and Kayden." "Hm." Leo had a small frown as he responded in agreement.
Kayla glowed with happiness as she turned to her brother and gestured, "Kayden, see? Daddy said he likes both of us."
Upon hearing this, there was a flicker of joy in Kayden's eyes, even though he was still clenching his jaw. There was hope for this ready-made daddy after all.
"Daddy, Mommy had it tough all these years. She was scolded by others for having us out of wedlock, and she has to work very hard to raise us. You must treat Mommy very well in the future. You have to give her lots of money to spend, and buy lots of yummy food and toys for Kayden and me. I love lollipops! It will be great if I can have a house filled with all kinds of sweets!" Kayla stretched out her arms and made a wide circle to emphasize on her desire for plenty of sweets.
Kayden's mouth twitched a little as he heard what Kayla had said. She was really not afraid of gaining weight or ruining all her teeth with her requests for food and sweets. Would they be able to marry her off when she's grown up at this rate?
"If the DNA test proves that we are your children, will you acknowledge us?" Kayden stepped forward and asked Leo calmly. Only his clenched fists revealed his nervousness.
When Leo looked down at the small face that was almost a mirror image to his, he felt his heart melt even more. His son was already this big when he found out about his existence. And looking at the little boy's behavior so far, even his personality was very much like Leo's. And so, even without the DNA test, Leo was already certain that these twins belonged to him. He had already decided that they were heirs to all that he owned.
As such, Leo answered, "Yes I will. There's no reason for my children to be surviving out there on their own."
Kayden immediately broken into a smile when he heard Leo's reply. His satisfaction with Leo had just moved up another notch. Leo was domineering, powerful, and did not reject the pair of them. Kayden could help Leo improve his relationship with their mother. He needed to think of a way to make his mother fall in love with Leo.
