Chapter 7 - Chapter 7

God, I'm in his room. She thinks to herself as her eyes dart to the slightly messy king-sized bed, who else would it be?

But as he speaks, his soft, velvet voice explaining how the Guild rankings work, her eyes shift back to his gorgeous figure, and she gives him his rapt attention.

"It's the same as the magic ranks, we decided it was easier if we kept it the same, the lowest level is Bronze, then Silver, then Gold, Platinum, Diamond, and finally Obsidian – sort of. But don't worry about that."

She immediately starts worrying about that, but she pushes it aside as he carries on.

"There are also Tiers in each rank, from 1 to 10. You don't have to reach Tier X in Bronze to get to Silver, those bigger ranks are entirely dependent on your magical power, those are simply to reflect how powerful you are. Your Tier is what most people worry about, this goes up by doing missions. Harder missions contribute more to your Tier obviously, your Tier also stays the same when you move to a new rank, for example if you were Tier IV but Bronze level power, and then you manage to get Silver level power, you'd be a Tier IV Silver, not a Tier I Silver, understand?"

She nods her head diligently.

"Missions are also good for Tiering up, as most of them – especially at higher ranks – help you increase your magical power. As you know, you get more magical power from killing beasts and absorbing their beast crystals. And a lot of missions involve killing beasts. So, you don't often see Tier I's above Silver, despite the difficult requirements for tiering up."

She nods again, "That makes sense. So, I'd be starting at Tier I Obsidian."

He nods, "Yes, which might make you seem odd. But it's easier to Tier up at higher levels. So don't worry about that. For a Bronze, to Tier up it's 1,000 Bronze missions, for Silver it's 750 Silver missions, for Gold it's 500 Gold missions, 250 Platinum Missions, 100 Diamond missions, and finally 10 Obsidian missions. It's easier, but they usually take long anyways, as there are far, far less Obsidian missions available then Diamond missions."

She nods, "OK, so I shouldn't worry about Tiering up too much, but take every Obsidian mission I can, and it will happen naturally?"

He nods, "Exactly." She swells with pride, "There's no need to act like a desperate Bronze and Silver taking missions every day to Tier up because there are nowhere near enough missions for Obsidian's to do such a thing."

She nods and is about to speak but he cuts in, "Also, most Obsidian missions are in groups. Most missions in general are in groups as it allows for more people to Tier up but also because we delegate the missions to as low as possible. So, a mission that is possible for a single Obsidian will probably be given to a group of Diamonds instead. So only really difficult missions are given to Obsidians."

She nods, "OK."

"Last thing is that missions are rated easy, medium and hard. For Obsidian, I don't remember the last easy mission. I believe it was a noble from the Cornucopia who insisted on being escorted by Obsidians despite there being no real danger. The mission rating doesn't affect Tiering up, but harder missions typically help more for ranking purposes as they typically involve powerful magical beasts which give a lot of mana."

She nods again, and he asks, "Any questions?"

She shakes her head, "No, you explained it well. But I do have a different question, it's unrelated."

"Go on."

"What's your name?"

"My name?" He repeats, a hint of surprise and confusion appearing on his face, "Why?"

"Well, no one seems to know. Everyone just calls you the Red Knight or some other moniker, why is that, by the way? You don't look particularly red."

He smirks, "You'll see at some point, or ask around. Someone will tell you, but I suggest you wait and see, if you don't know about my power, it'll be all the more satisfying when you are completely surprised by it… as for my name, I don't spread it around but it's Dorian. Don't spread it round either."

She nods, "Dorian, that's a nice name. What's your last name?"

He cocks an eyebrow, "Seriously?"

She blushes slightly, "Was that a stupid question?"

"Not stupid…" He shakes his head, "I just thought it was obvious… it's Obsidian. Dorian Obsidian."

Her cheeks redden even further, "Oh, right, of course…" She stammers.

"Yeah, it doesn't really roll of the tongue, does it? Dorian Obsidian." He says it again.

She manages a small smile, "Nor really, I can see why you hide your name." She jokes.

He laughs, a short, deep rumble, "Unfortunately, I can't change it. It's too important of a surname to change."

"Yeah…"

"Alright, I'll take you to our chief rabbit, he'll sort you out with the sign-up. Tell him I sent you, and tell him you're Obsidian, no need for a test."

She realises that by saying you're Obsidian, out of context that could be mean as saying she was part of his family, she slightly blushes again and opens her mouth to say OK. But her visions distort, and she appears in a different room, with a rabbit in a golden monocle behind the desk.

She walks over to him in a daze, he looks up at her and smiles, "How can I help you?"

"Uh, Dorian sent me… to sign up."

"Well, he must've if you're calling him Dorian. That's a closely guarded secret, make sure you don't tell anyone." He warns.

She nods, but her mind is wandering, because this was the second time she had been transported instantaneously, and a thought runs through her mind, if he was moving really fast, why didn't he just stay here with me?

And after a few moments it hits her, the answer obvious but life-shattering.

It really was teleportation. That was the only explanation, why would he come into the room and leave without saying hi to the chief rabbit?

Or maybe he just wanted to be out of her presence as fast as possible.
