Chapter 24 - Twist of Events.

When the people in the crowd heard what she said, they became even more angry as they thought that Valeria was still being arrogant.

Mara who also heard what Valeria said sneered, and walked towards her.

"I guess you still haven't learnt your lesson, you need more right?"

And with that she raised her hand, ready to strike Valeria. But just as her hand was about to make contact, Valeria caught her wrist and twisted it sharply, causing Mara to cry out in pain.

The crowd gasped, their voices hushed in shock, as Mara's eyes widened in surprise and anger. Then she screamed out of pain making everyone gape in shock. They had actually heard Mara's bones cracking when it was twisted by Valeria. Now they all started to retreat to their seats as they saw the scene.

They had thought that Mara will give Valeria a couple of slaps to humble her and teach her a lesson, but they hadn't anticipated the twist of events.

They all retreated and went back to their seats except one person, Jake.

As the crowd dispersed, Jake's expression transformed from shock to unbridled anger. His eyes blazed with fury, and his face twisted in a snarl. "You're going to pay for this, Valeria," he growled, his voice low and menacing. "You're going to regret the day you ever crossed me."

Valeria smiled sweetly, her eyes gleaming with a hint of mischief. "I warned you, Jake. I told you not to mess with me unless you wanted to suffer the consequences. You should have listened."

Jake's face reddened with rage, and he took a step forward, his fists clenched. But Valeria's eyes flashed a warning, and he hesitated. He knew he was no match for her, not after what he had just witnessed. Her strength and speed had left him shaken, and he didn't want to be on the receiving end of her wrath again.

Mara, still nursing her injured wrist, glared at Valeria with a mixture of anger and fear. "You're a monster," she spat, her voice trembling. "You're not even human."

Valeria chuckled, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "That's what they all say when they can't handle the truth," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. "But I'm not a monster, Mara. I'm just something you can't understand. Something you can't control."

As the tension between them escalated, Juliet intervened, her voice calm and soothing. "Valeria, let's get out of here and treat your injuries " she said, her eyes locked on the wound on her arm. "It's still bleeding."

Valeria nodded, her eyes never leaving Jake and Mara. "Good idea, Juliet. Let's go."

Valeria turned and walked away, Juliet by her side as they headed towards the infirmary. Jake and Mara watched them go, their faces showing traces of anger and disdain.

"This is far from over…", Mara said, her lips trembling as Jake carried her to her seat.
